‘I Don’t Wanna Hear About the Affordability’: Trump Denies Americans Are Paying More for Food

Trump rattled off some false claims to dismiss the idea that Americans are paying more at the grocery store.

The president hosted several Central Asian leaders in the East Room of the White House on Thursday night, where he took questions from reporters. At one point, Fox News White House Correspondent Jacqui Heinrich asked the president for his reaction to a federal judge’s ruling just hours earlier.

U.S. District Judge John McConnell ordered the Trump administration to issue full payments to beneficiaries of the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program, whose funding the administration claimed last week would lapse on Nov. 1 because of the ongoing government shutdown. Last Friday, two federal judges, including McConnell, ordered the government to continue funding the program, which the administration did, but only partially. On Thursday, McConnell told the administration to fully fund the program. The government is appealing the ruling.

“A federal judge said tonight that the administration has to fully SNAP,” Heinrich noted to Trump. “And the Justice Department said they’re going to appeal it. What’s your message to folks as they work this out in the courts and in Congress as we’re heading into Thanksgiving?”

Trump then reiterated his dubious claim that the cost of a Thanksgiving meal is down 25%, according to Walmart. However, Walmart reduced its basket of items from 29 last year to 15 this year,

The president then said he doesn’t want to hear about affordability:

When are the Democrats going to reopen the government? (Anyone who needs tips to put together an affordable Thanksgiving dinner or monthy food and staples budget just pm me... (get one or two together for your neighbors if needed....) Lots and lots of sales out there....)

It depends on what foods he is talking about. Some foods are down like eggs and bread and vegetables and others are up like beef and chicken. Since I live with a vegetarian we eat a lot of veggies. Fuel prices here have fallen. I saw $2.39 fuel at Walmart the other day so that helps a lot every time you fill up. On my Kroger's ad Kroger grade A eggs are $1.99 for 18 count. And whole milk was $2.59 so with the exception of meats, groceries seem to be improving.

It is ridiculous that a Federal Judge tells ANY President that they must fund fully SNAP. Our contingency fund is 5 billion dollars the snap monthly payment is about 8 billion dollars. Is the Federal Judge going to make up the shortfall out of his pocket? If Congress does not fund SNAP then the President isn't obligated to fund SNAP. Congress holds the purse strings not the President.

Schumer has painted himself into a corner and is looking for an off ramp. I suspect we won't see Schumer around after this term is finished for him on 1/3/2029.

Pesky details...

He's definitely going full on Marie Antoinette.

Is it time to bring back the guillotine?

There's produce on sale all the time ... And pantries have an abundance of it.... Especially with community gardens wrapping it up for the season....The problem is getting people to try to use it... We have seen people toss it out of the car or into the dumpster as they leave... Fresh vegetables require a little preparation after all , you can't just throw them in the microwave...

Other than one-time sales, I have seen nothing go down here. Eggs are the same as last year. While buying nonperishable stuff for the food pantries, it's easy to see that prices are up for canned veggies/soup/chili/tuna/peanut butter, boxed foods like mac & cheese, and fresh produce as well.

Trump is the same idiot who never grocery-shopped in his life and thought you had to show an ID to buy food. We should start calling him #DonOldAntoinette.

I like that!

AI Overview

Whether vegetable prices are coming down
depends on the specific vegetable, with some prices decreasing while others remain high due to factors like supply, weather, and operating costs. While national brand frozen vegetables have seen significant price drops, fresh vegetable prices have seen mixed results, with some items increasing and others stabilizing or falling, according to a November 6, 2025, USA Today article.

As you said Trump has never bought any food from a store in his life.
