I can't believe we don't already do this

so why the need for this if they are reading them already?

?????.....perhaps because the Russian, the two Chinese and Google aren't the ones deciding if the person should get a visa........seriously, did you need that pointed out to you?......when did you decide to become dense.......must have been just before you decided not to be a Republican any more.......

Well I answered the question because that was the discussion we were having. Having the passwords of refugees would not have prevented Orlando, Boston or San Bernandino. So what if they had been in place and those events occurred? Would the argument be we need the password of every immigrant coming to this country?

You don't think it would have prevented San Bernadino?

These people use the internet to communicate with one another. Not just to each other but it would almost certainly provide some leads to terrorist cells more generally. Like I said in the OP, I can't believe we haven't been doing this already.

It's simple: at minimum, we should be *asking* refugees from Syria and other places for their social media passwords. If they want to get here so bad they wouldn't blink. I wouldn't.

And if they don't provide it, then they have something to hide and we don't need them here.

It's not dense to support an act that would not have stopped any prior attacks in our country nor will it stop future attacks. It's being dense, or a liberal such as yourself, to think someone intent on creating terrorism in this country is going to stop because the gov't asks for their passwords. As if that would stop them. Same thing with a wall. If you think that will keep people out you're as stupid as your fellow liberals you mock.

They weren't refugees. That's why tinfoil's question wasn't a strawman. The next step will be to ask all immigrants for their passwords and the right to track every single thing they do. That's freaking crazy and suicide as a country as our economy will go straight to the toilet.

Are you saying immigrants make or break out economy?

It's still a slippery slope fallacy as far as the OP is concerned.

Trump's proposal deals with the seven countries on Obama's list.

considering that if these measures had been in place none of the previous attacks would have been stopped it's not all difficult to believe further measures would be taken

nor will it stop future attacks.

I respect your right to that opinion......I just don't give a fuck that you hold it.......you don't like things like looking at social media or blocking the borders because you think it won't keep us safe......noted.....but more importantly, NOT looking at social media and NOT blocking the borders certainly won't keep us safe.......that is why we are smarter than you.......

FFS people! Ok, don't believe what's happening in the real effing world.

Relax. Put your feet up and cue up your DVR'S. Let's watch some Homeland and 24. Pretend it's 1984.

this is why it IS a strawman.....

Because gov't actions never have future unintended consequences?

Remember when the gov't instituted the income tax and said only the richest of the rich would pay it? How did that work out for everyone. To question at the time that the gov't would eventually increase to all people would have been a strawman right?

And you're willing to gamble that trend will continue when American lives, perhaps thousands of them, are at stake?

Trump is unwilling to take that gamble; and poll numbers suggest a majority of Americans support him in it.

Even if they don't care so much for the Tweets.

in your mind there is no difference between keep them out and kick them out.......that is our problem.......

Give him a break. The poor guy is stuck in SF. He's forever tainted by the liberal pall.

Also, it's very common that once people have a kid, the taint raises it's head and starts eating at their common sense. You would think you'd demand that your government protect you and your children and keep you safe. Noooo! Wanting everything to be about love and feeling good is the altered reality. They want it to be a fucking Coca-Cola commercial with people entering our border over a grassy mountain top in flowing colorful gowns; smiling, great teeth, singing....

Thing is, the ones slipping through now from those 7 identified countries, aren't looking to share the sidewalk with him and his wife and kids out for a stroll in Golden Gate Park.

What's under those gowns is now the reality people.

You talk about slippery slopes, but when fear trumps liberty, it's one of the steepest slopes out there.

You can justify all kinds of restrictions & infringements based on the bolded. If you use that logic, there really isn't an end to it. There are a LOT of things that could potentially make us "safer" from hypothetical threats.
