I can't believe we don't already do this

there's a LARGE difference between what one tweet's from their account and the gov't having your password to read private Facebook messages.
you do not have a right of privacy for anything you put on social media.........where the fuck did you get the idea that you did?.....Google tracks what you do, Amazon tracks what you do, people you don't even know sell your "privacy" to anyone with a nickle......facebook tracks you, twitter tracks you, everybody tracks you......

does the gov't have a right to my Facebook password and thus what I write in Facebook messenger to another person?

even if I accept that meme - and the KKK is a hollowed out shell of it's former self-but ok fine

Why on gawds green earth should we not give extreme vetting to those coming from known terrorists states with failed government?
we have no way of knowing their identity or purpose besides cursory document inspection

You're allowing common sense to interfere with your thinking lol.

These aren't US citizens were talking about. Who wants to be the first to try and convince me the constitution prevents the government from asking foreign nationals for their social media password?

Are you a Syrian national?

He said you don't have a right of privacy to what we put on social media. Your response doesn't answer his question. Does the gov't have a right to our passwords and to read what say you and I were to write each other on Facebook messanger?

Do you think someone planning on terrorism would not come to this country and commit it because they had to give up their social media passwords?

it's ridiculous..Once a refugee comes here THEY ARE REQUIRED to SEEK CITIZENSHIP

and.. and....get THIS on the vetting! The UN DOES THE VETTING -so called "core vetting",
and then US does the follow up.
Sorry I do not trust the UN to vet!!
Screw this. If you wanna come here,it's upto you to fully disclose everything, and that means we can looks you over from head to toe and back again

The question isn't relevant to the OP.

Moreover, the government doesn't have 'rights'---the government has authority granted under the constitution.

Do you think foreign nationals have constitutional rights if they aren't being detained by the government?

I think the point is this: When the government finds the extreme vetting of foreigners completely fruitless, will the government decide to start the extreme vetting of American citizens?

Slippery slope fallacy.

Do you really think the government reading the private messages of a few 10's of thousands of immigrants from the problem countries would be fruitless? I don't.

I'm pretty sure ISIS and other Islamist groups would either.

He said you don't have a right of privacy to what we put on social media.

and you're a fucking idiot if you think you do......so the government doesn't have access......do you seriously think its private?......there's a guy in Russia and two more in China reading the Facebook messages you wrote this morning, not to mention the Google employees trying to decide how much info they can sell from them......

Do you think someone planning on terrorism would not come to this country and commit it because they had to give up their social media passwords?
no.....but I think they would stop trying to come in on a visa....we will need other means to block illegal entry......maybe a wall or something.....

sounds like a firm foundation for a strawman......if the government finds extreme vetting of citizens fruitless, isn't it likely we will set up concentration camps and start gassing liberals?.......

Well I answered the question because that was the discussion we were having. Having the passwords of refugees would not have prevented Orlando, Boston or San Bernandino. So what if they had been in place and those events occurred? Would the argument be we need the password of every immigrant coming to this country?

so why the need for this if they are reading them already?
