I am leaving the Republican Party

Damocles is right. If the Republican party would jettison their crazy religious right wing, they would win elections over and over again. Same for the Democrats, get rid of the uberlibs and you win. First party to the moderate center wins. People in the US are mostly fiscally conservative and want the government to stay our of social issues. The Republican party of today would NEVER elect Eisenhower, never elect Colin Powell, and probably never elect Nixon. All of those men, were good solid fiscal conservatives without some overly religious agenda. Shit even Reagan mostly played lip service to the religious right.

Feel free to believe that if you choose, but it ain't correct .. in my opinion.

There is far more wrong with Republican Party than it's lunatic fringe of the religious .. who do not entirely make up the right-wing. Without the right-wing, they don't win elections.

The Republican Party does not have the ability to adapt to a changing society. It's really just that simple.

Without the liberal wing of the Democratic Party, they would never win a national election .. Obama would not be the president. Hillary Clinton was the real centrist .. she lost because Obama had the left.

Without the activists, neither party wins.

Such is the trap of a two-party system.

I believe that both parties are held hostage to their fringe. First party that cuts the fringe loose, and says to the american people, we want you to keep your money, we don't want to do anything to take your guns, we believe marriage and procreation are things best left to the people, their conscience, their clergy, their gods and goddesses, and government that governs best governs least, come join us, vote in our primaries, and help us build a country for ALL americans. That party wins. Right now, the primaries are the toys of the fringe. Colin Powell could not win the nomination of his party because he is pro-choice and believes in Affirmative Action. The Dems are never going to elect someone that is pro-life but may have many of the same social views in other areas and never going to elect someone to national office that does not at least say they are for gun control. The fringe on both sides are so worried about butting into others lives they can't see the forest for the trees. They either want all kids to pray in school, or they want anyone that is in the top 2% income wise to be hit with confiscatory taxes. Most Americans just want to be left the hell alone. That is the common individual rights that would make society better. The right to be left alone.
 
I hope more of you leave the Repukelickin party, it will be easier to pick you off.

I believe that both parties are held hostage to the moderate fascists, who stand for nothing, have no ideology, and push centrism for the sake of centrism without sense or logic, no other purpose than a cynical ploy to win votes.

LMAO... wasn't that what Reps said about the Dem party after the ass-kicking they delivered in 1994? Six years of inept leadership from Bush changed that.

With Dems in complete control, the public will hold the party responsible in 2010 if things are not deemed 'better' at that point.

The Republicans cannot win without the religious right. It is absurd to think otherwise. If they tried to jettison the religious right, they would have to go so far left that they might as well be Democrats.

He didn't say they could win without the South. But they most certainly could win if they focus on fiscal responsibility, more limited government (this does not mean NO government regulations.... quick example... simplify the tax code), rather than focusing on the fringe issues that drive the far RR bonkers and tend to polarize the country.

Bullshit. They do not have to go to the left, they just have to focus on issues other than the polarizing RR issues. That will draw moderates from both parties, independents and most Reps.

What you are implying is like saying the Dems cannot win without the PETA type lunatics on the left.

If both parties jetisoned their extremists, they would be better off....as would the country.

What if the south started voting for the Constitution party? Seriously, if the south breaks away the Republican coalition is going to have to change dramatically. Not to mention that southern reps make up a majority of the house of reps right now. How are you going to get the majority, which is southern, to change away from a southern agenda?

If PETA members made up a majority in half the states the Democrats won in, you bet your ass they'd have to pander to them to win.
