"I am going to get assault weapons banned."--President Biden

Better question is why would anyone need one? You expecting Attila and the Huns to stop by some day?

When rights are based upon “need” then the Democrats are racing Trump down the dark path of autocracy and authoritarianism.

The problem isn’t guns. The problem is nutjobs and criminals with guns. Penalizing honest citizens for the actions of a few is as silly as banning cars in the city because of James Fields and Darrell Brooks.

Sure it should. They’d be heavily regulated in the UK. No one would bat an eye if I had a bunch here. The way it should be. ;)

Pretty obvious you've never seen a claymore go off

Hate to think what would happen if the neighbors dog or even child happen to wander one day onto your property, not to mention Fed Ex or Amazon delivering an unexpected package

The gatling gun had issues and is still a cranked repeating weapon with a high rate of fire. The ultimate cranked repeating weapon that comes closest to a modern machinegun is the Gardner (no relation) machinegun.

Yeah. The point is they had different kinds of weapons since 1776. The Second Amendment doesn't limit the ownership of those weapons.

Hope it will be face out. :)

Yes sir. I’ve seen videos of them going off. But to be honest the first thing I thought of was the Scottish sword when you posted that.

I also realize that this is one area where we are going to disagree as we’ve been in these types of discussions before. So I’m mostly just spouting off. I do remember back in the day I really wanted one of those Ruger Mini-14s but at that point in my life I couldn’t afford one. Truth is now, I wouldn’t have one. I won an AR type rifle in 223 caliber in a raffle last year but made a deal for a Glock 45 ACP Model 41 Long Slide instead.

The gun I’m trying not to buy right now (meaning that I really want to buy it but if I resist long enough maybe the urge will pass) isn’t even regulated. I could buy it off of Sportsman’s Guide and have it shipped to my front porch. A Crockett 32 cal percussion muzzleloader would suit my fancy just fine.

But that doesn’t change my position on the 2nd and opposition to the desire to ban weaponry based on looks and how they operate.

Have no clue what you are intending to say, you got "rights, Democrats, and Trump" all collated in a short sentence
When both Democrats and Republicans are racing to strip Americans of their rights, why should I trust either one of them?

Which returns to the original question, why does anyone feel the need to have a weapon those sole purpose is to kill as many people as fast as it can?

Sure, he wrote the majority opinion in the recent NY gun case infront of the SCOTUS, Thomas offered a sophomoric interpretation of history supposedly showing proof that the Founders had intended for Americans to always have guns

I have not read his interpretation. You mean he thinks the Founders wanted all Americans to always have guns? That's pretty silly.

If you are hunting then you may use a rifle. Home/personal protection may allow you to have a hand gun. AR-15's should be illegal to own.

That’s not true.

Again, when you go down the path of requiring people to justify their rights, then you are supporting the same thing the Republicans, especially Trump, are doing. The only difference is that they want to strip different rights than you at the moment, but it all ends up the same way in the end.
