I agree with Harry Reid

Was going to post this in the "Made in the USA" thread that got dragged out yesterday but decided to make a new one.

"I am so upset. I think the Olympic committee should be ashamed of themselves. I think they should be embarrassed. I think they should take all the uniforms, put them in a big pile and burn them and start all over again," Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid, D-Nev.,...

I suspect that a lot of equipment and other clothing the athletes use and wear isn't made here either....and I hate the berets. Oh well.

I saw this story yesterday, too. And yes, I agree that it's ridiculous that the U.S.A.'s uniforms aren't made in the U.S.A., but given the fact that manufacturing is virtually gone in this country, it's not surprising. Look at the labels of everything you wear and you'll see that your wardrobe came from all over the world. What isn't surprising is that the 'outrage' occurs not because the uniforms were made in Indonesia, or Bangladesh, or Guatemala - but China.

I'll admit I had to chuckle seeing Reid and Pelosi all *shocked*, having a hissy over something that the rest of us have been complaining about for years now.

leaning, to me this is a perfect example of bi-partisan grandstanding. These idiots were tripping over each other to find a mic to express their outrage. The transparency on this one is off the charts. F them.

It's like it's something in their DNA. When I see this stuff, I cringe.

Our political system is likely one of the greatest ever created, but also completely horrible. It's a weird paradox.

Boehner's response seemed a bit more into reality... "They should know better than that."...

That was it.

I guess it's because I am such a big buy US made stuff guy. I haven't been able to do it 100% but I do a lot of research before I buy even little stuff. My overalls (yep, that's what I wear a lot) for example because they are made here, providing jobs for US workers.

Your link is one of a tiny handful of American manufacturers. Most are long gone.

And when searching, you can't always be sure. 'Free Trade Zones' are set up specifically to exploit cheap foreign labor while claiming to be 'made in the U.S.A.'.

We are basically doing what the English did to the colonies... Exploiting the cheep labor and use it for our gain.

I wholeheartedly agree w/ you on that. But Reid's example is pure symbolism, and cawacko is right - it's just shameless political grandstanding.

Do something to make America more attractive for manufacturers. Give tax credits for keeping things domestic. Anything at all.

And yes, I definitely can see this grandstanding and saying something that will make some like me stand up and applaud. And again I refer to my first post on the "Sick of the GOP" thread.

I disagree. If the US government is going to fund the US athletes, then fine. But if you are going to have them privately funded, then the sponsors are going to be whomever the USOC can find to sponsor them.

Reporters should immediately request to see the clothing labels of any politician grandstanding on this issue.

That would truly be funny to watch. How many of the politicians would start to squirm if they could only wear clothing made in the US? They represent the US Congress, surely all of their clothing should be made in the USA.

Agreed. Normally I can't stand Harry Reid, but he did good, here.

I was dumbfounded to hear those words coming out of his mouth, though.

And then there's the dumbass Donald Trump who pulls a Reid and has his own fucking clothing line that is manufactured in China. Fucking dipshit.

Meh...it was probably just an extension of Mitt's contract with the Chinese for the Salt Lake olympics. I wonder how much Bain made off this deal?
