Dems warn GOP of backlash for opposing Sotomayor

WASHINGTON – The Senate debate over Supreme Court nominee Sonia Sotomayor turned bitter Wednesday, after Democrats warned the GOP it would pay a steep price for opposing the judge who would be the first Hispanic justice, and a top Republican charged they were playing destructive racial politics.

many dems like the above are so elitest they don't even see their own racism in making this comment....as if to say...hey, she is hispanic give her a special pass....yet when the vote down hispanic judges appt by repubs, not racist...

the more the dems make race an issue like this, the more they bury themselves....IMO, people of all races are getting tired of the destructive and often not true racial politics that democrats play

i don't think they realize how tired and old the race is....its like the boy who cried wolf...

forbid republicans don't like someone but if they don't vote for them.....it must mean racism....it is amazing that people buy their lies

This is the Dems MO. They do it to incite to get the votes. It's ridiculous and shameful.

funny how the dems are so dishonest about this....

bush appt a hispanic in 2001 to scotus....but the dems stopped it...

reagan appts a hispanic in 88 to fed district, is later considered for scotus but it went to a black candidate

yeah, the repubs if they don't vote for sotomayor are racist...

If I may - the evidence that "Democrats" in general are calling Republicans "racist" or planning to call Republicans "racist" if they do not vote to confirm is scant, at best.

Good call! :clink:

With this latest outrage, and with Michael Steele keeping it real with his hip-hop outreach program, I think the repukes might get 50% of the minority vote in 2010. :cheer:

On a serious note, I don't disagree that rich, white dudes of either party are not in a position to speak for what minorities think or feel.

If I were Michael Steele, I would be sending republicans to speak at NAACP and La Raza meetings. Oddly enough, La Raza, the nation's largest hispanic advocacy community, invited three GOP governors and Michael Steele to address their conference this week. And yet, not one repuke showed up. So really Spurt, you and your party have no one to blame but yourselves.

so not showing up to those groups makes them racist? is that what you're saying or are you saying by not going to those group's meetings that they are ignoring that base?

and what if they don't agree with that group's ideas? should they go and pander anyways....whinepress

Those organizations only represent the liberal portions of their respective races. Having a Republican, especially a conservative, speak at their meetings is typically a setup and therefore an unwise political move.

How come you accuse the Dems of hypocrisy, but don't say "boo" about the hypocrisy of Republicans?

Huh? Huh? How 'bout it?
