Husky Toledo Refinery shut down after explosion/fire

I have mentioned a few times that refineries have not been doing all of the maintenance in order to keep running to keep gas prices down this summer, and that the result would likely be fires and exploding fuel prices.

It looks like we are here, though we are still awaiting details of what blew up and burned, and how long it will take to repair.

Pulling more shit out of your ass

In August 2022, Cenovus reached an agreement to purchase bp’s 50% interest in the bp-Husky Toledo Refinery in Ohio. Cenovus has owned the other 50% of the refinery since its combination with Husky Energy in 2021.[20]

Oh My...this could be a complicated rebuild....and is a red flag for management failure, which would complicate things even more. One owner was getting out, the other owner is Canadian.

A full 24 hours in and we are still told nothing about what happened, or what the ramifications will be.

Sadly the new normal in dying America.

Just Blame Biden for it!

Biden is the blame for everything! He's Old Yanno? He don't support Trump Yanno?

Now wasn't that easy?

Even a retard can do it!

Husky's much smaller WI refinery blew up April 2018 (negligence) and still has not been rebuilt. Current estimates of the cost to do so is $1.2 billion.

Back in the Good Old Days when we still had journalists we found out the gist of what happened in these sorts of situations within 24 hours (less usually).

THere is clearly an information embargo by those in charge, and since we allowed journalism to die we know nothing.

We are to occupy ourselves crying over the two brothers who died I suppose.

We have no right to information power does not want us to have.

Did the two dead steelworkers fuck up and cause their own deaths (and fuck the region)?

That would certainly account for the information embargo.

An unnamed source told Reuters the day of last week’s fire that leaking fumes from a crude unit may have caused the ignition in another unit at the facility. The refinery, a very old facility which originally started production in 1919, had just completed a once in five years “turnaround,” when production is shut down for inspection, cleaning and major maintenance and repairs. The process had reportedly been completed and production resumed.

The resumption of production at a refinery requires meticulous work, involving careful monitoring of pressure and temperature levels. Was this rushed or done without trained crews?

Considering that there is still a information embargo on what happened almost certainly yes.

I suspect that the story here is that this refinery is so old and poorly maintained that it should not be repaired, that it needs to be torn out and replaced, but that Washington which is now run by the Revolution would never allow that.

Obviously since they have already had a catastrophic event the federal regulators are going through the facility with a fine tooth comb. Let us not forget that before the company was sold this refinery was 50% owned by Husky.....who blew up their Superior, Wisconsin refinery in 2018....through negligence.

That refinery has never reopened though they are still talking about it.

How convenient if the goal is the move the world away from the petrodollar.

The U.S. Chemical Safety Board is deploying a team to investigate a fatal BP refinery fire that killed two people and shut down the site.

In a written statement the independent federal agency’s Interim Executive Authority Steve Owens said the team will carefully investigate the tragic incident.

“The CSB team will be documenting the site, gathering evidence, and initiating information requests as we begin our investigation into this tragic incident,” Owens said.

According to the CSB’s statement, the incident involved the release of both sulfur dioxide and hydrogen sulfide.

While the official cause of the fire has not been reported, an article published by Reuters states that “leaking fumes from a crude unit may have caused the ignition in another unit at the facility”. The article further states, “multiple units were on fire”.

In addition, to the investigation, the plant is expected to undergo a prolonged shutdown as BP Plc recently laid off most of its contractors.

I suspect that this is going to be just like Husky's WI, the same basic people blew up that refinery April 2018.....and it has stayed closed.
