As of now, the global population is still growing, but the pace is slowing. UN projections suggest we’ll hit around 8.5 billion by 2030 and peak at 10.4 billion in the 2080s before leveling off or possibly declining.
Some regions, like Japan and parts of Europe, are already seeing population shrinkage due to low birth rates and aging populations.
Others, like sub-Saharan Africa, are still booming.
