huge insect die off

They really aren't. While there may be some bias on the editorial pages, the good papers are still outstanding.

People are doing themselves a disservice by buying into Trump's "fake news" thing, or the general vilification of the media. I get the Sunday NYT every week. Last week, there was an extensive article about a woman in the heartland who was losing her factory job because it was moving to Mexico. It mentioned Trump, but only because she was a supporter - it had no political bent at all. But it gave such an emotional & deep insight into what a situation like that means to someone living it - one of those things that should be a must-read for everyone. Heart-wrenching & informative, and it really showed every aspect of it - from the young Mexican worker who was going to benefit, to the co-workers upset that she would train her replacement, to how losing a job like that in an economically challenged area was going to affect everything from how she eats to her daughter being able to go to college.

It was outstanding journalism - as good as any research & writing I've read in my life. There are still many dedicated professionals out there doing the work, and it is important work. They deserve better than to all be lumped into someone's political agenda and dismissed as "fake" or anything but exceptional.

So the story made you sad. Almost like you were living it I bet. You probably won’t do anything for them. But I bet they appreciate you mentioning them on this message board

Maybe she should move to Mexico illegally and take jobs from the spics?

Is this your new thing? To care about an issue, you have to give up career, relocate and work full time for that issue?

I'll remember that one. You sound exceedingly dopey today, btw - dopier than usual.

To me, it all traces back to the same m.o. We have to make a decision as a species to develop and promote policies that are consistent with long-term sustainability. We have to have a symbiotic relationship w/ the planet, and not a parasitic one.

It's amazing to me that many do not have a broader view on this. The damage we have done since the Industrial Revolution is so obvious and measurable - you don't have to be a genius to see that our practices are clearly not sustainable even for the short-term, much less for generations. It has been such a short period of time in the scheme of things.

Your impassioned pleas almost makes it sound like you care. But what have you done in your personal life to reduce your carbon footprint?

Give up multiple TVs?
Computers?
iPhone?
iPad?
Go down to one car?
Smaller home?

Tell us what you have done personally.

Other than my mountain retreat I make my carbon footprint as big as possible but then I don’t care about made up science like man made global warming so......

Yeah, but you're working the border and abortion clinics, right? Because you can't care about those issues unless you have dedicated your own life to them.

You make the arguments a child would make, ILA. You always sound frantic and kind of shoot-from-the-hip.

I do the personal conservation stuff much more than most. But I also realize that it's strictly symbolic to do so. Systemic change is what is needed.

Anyone who thinks otherwise is mathematically challenged.

I kind of know what he's saying there. I think "bias" is the wrong word to use.

If you're covering a nutjob, are you biased to say he's a nutjob? I think you're not doing your job unless you DO say he's a nutjob.
it's much more then that..( and serious reporters do not use such language)
you skew straight news coverage to only emphasize what your political spin entails

the man is insane and a lie bag

how do you report on him without pointing that out

Which is why no one likes you

and it's just a weird comment. You're going to tell me some racist asshole in po dunk nowhere is more hated than people who kill, rape and mane across the globe?

I have hard time believing someone would say "I may have killed a few people but at least I'm not a racist".

Or racist are hated more than someone like Jerry Sandusky. Really?

(this isn't supporting racists, it's commenting on her statement)
