It's fast here... but it was likely explosive decompression on the sub. Like a lightbulb.

Going off of memory here,.....but isnt that what happened to the USS Scorpion back in the 60's? One of my older brothers was aboard the research ship USS Compass Island that was searching for the Scorpion along with a whole host of other vessels.

The pressure from the water filling the empty space would have caused a flash of heat hotter than the surface of the sun. The occupants would have sizzled to nothing in a thousandth of a second.
