How Much Have Texas Republicans Cost US Consumers because they failed at their job?

Because Texas failed to pass legislation requiring energy producers to winterize it caused the price of natural gas to go from $3 to $190 per MMbtu as Natural Gas pipelines in Texas stopped working. Now utility companies that paid that spot price are passing the cost on to their residential and business customers that use natural gas to heat their homes and businesses. This will result in heating bills for the month of February going up by as much as $400 for some customers in Colorado, Minnesota and other places that were smart enough to winterize their energy production.

I wonder if we can get our AGs to sue Texas to get some of our money back.

Great point. The standard corporate guideline appears to be to do nothing to protect people until a disaster strikes, then deal with the aftermath.

Another question is how much did that crippled mind, body and traitor of a soul and so-called governor and his fellow hell bound gutter repukes cost the lives of more Texans when it comes to unleashing the ravaging affects of the coronavirus throughout the entire state?

Why are Coloradans and Minnesotans bitching. They signed a contract. Shouldn't they be using wind and solar power instead of nasty natural gas anyway????? Natural gas comes out of the ground mixed with water . Water freezes. We have NEVER EVER had a winter storm that affected the entire state and got to all time record low temps. I have a difficult time faulting the gas suppliers not preparing for something that has never ever happen in our recorded weather history. Why should Texans pay anything so Coloradans can get cheap gas??? I bet you didn't bitch when you were paying for inexpensive natural gas.

When the relatively weak hurricane Sandy hit the East coast it did 65 Billion dollars which the federal government help offset. We should bitch about the East coasters for not preparing for weak Hurricanes something that does happen on the East coast.

Texas energy provider Griddy filed for bankruptcy on Monday and blamed the state's power grid management for destroying its business.

In a statement on its website, the company argued that actions taken by the Electric Reliability Council of Texas (ERCOT) to price energy at extremely high levels during a massive winter storm last month harmed both its customers and the business itself.

"Our bankruptcy plan, if confirmed, provides relief for our former customers who were unable to pay their electricity bills resulting from the unprecedented prices. ERCOT made a bad situation worse for our customers by continuing to set prices at $9,000 per megawatt hour long after firm load shed instructions had stopped. Our customers paid 300 times more than the normal price for electricity during this period," said CEO Michael Fallquist.

I have three words for you that explain everything:

If anyone were to be blamed it would be ERCOT not the governor you moron.

Most grids have federal oversight, because they cover several states. Texas specifically wanted state oversight, and gave as much oversight power as possible to the governor. We cannot blame trump or Biden for this one, it is entirely in Abbot's court.

El Paso and Beaumont are not, they did just fine.

True. Most of Texas is under the authority of the Texas grid, and failed miserably. If they crossed state lines, they would have to be under the authority of the competent federal government. But there are small parts of the state that are not in the Texas grid, and they somehow did fine with the exact same weather.

ERCOT is tasked with the job of insuring Texans have enough power. Prior to the storm ERCOT said they were prepared. Many of the ERCOT board have resigned because of their failure.

Didn't a while back California have rolling blackout due to excessive heat and lack of sufficient energy production. Wasn't California regulated by the Federal government. Didn't California have blackouts because their transmission lines were so poorly maintained that they started massive forest fires. The Feds are doing a fantastic job.

Entegy had rolling blackouts too.

BEAUMONT, Texas — It's been a long day for folks without power and the crews trying to repair the infrastructure.

For the most part people were doing what they needed to do in order to keep warm, and are managing to stay positive.

Good news for neighborhoods across Southeast Texas, the Entergy outage map is showing thousands of areas have been restored. Entergy also says there will be no more rolling blackouts.

The primary reason ERCOT members resigned was that they did not live in Texas. It appears they were happy taking Texas' money, but did not want to live there.

ERCOT told Abbot they were prepared, and even though all the evidence was that they were not, he believed them. That is on Abbot.

Abbot cannot micromanage ERCOT. He has to trust that they have done their jobs when they tell them they have done it.

It is Abbot's job to regulate ERCOT, he did not do his job. Instead, he appointed to ERCOT's board a bunch of industry cronies who ripped off consumers.

Clearly just trusting the industry cronies he appointed to ERCOT failed miserably.

He is having those "cronies" investigated.
