How can a president lower gas prices?

Wouldn't it be great if gasoline prices were down to $2.50 a gallon? That's what a couple of GOP candidates promised. Does a president have that kind of power in a free market society?
 
I know your a trade school welder so this isn't for you, it's for reasoned educated people.
Open both coast and Alaska, there are billions of domestic barells being held off the market as a political football.
Not saying I want that, I'm big oil and I like the high price.
 
quite hilarious that \\\/// wasn't out creating these threads when bush was president...oh no....i am positive he was out there blaming bush
