I would suggest that's a problem of perception. The law of inheritance, one of the three laws of nature defining evolutionary biology, demonstrates that all offspring resemble both parents. If a caucasion and a black person mate and produce off spring that off spring will inherit characteristics of both parents that are easily observed. Just as the law of variation (due to genetic crossover) easily demonstrates that they are also uniquely different than their parents. If you can't observe the first law of evolutionary biology in a biracial child, you need to observe more closely as those attributes do exist in that child that are inherited from both parents. That's a well validated fact.

I don't doubt that some things are inherited from both parents, but simple observable identity says there is more going on that perhaps you may be aware of.

That's EXACTLY what I'm talking about good brother. But not just a question of societal and social definition. It's also a question of physical, thus, genetic, thus, scientific definition. The physical definition requires a scientific answer, and with all due respect to your study, you have not provided me with that answer.

Please, ignore the noise. I greatly appreciate your wisdom on all manner of issues. I don't have to tell you that. Without question, I take a back seat to this conversation knowing that you are a biologist .. and one whose wisdom I trust.

But there is a gap in your explanation that doesn't make sense to me. Consider that I'm not talking about the formula as much as I'm talking about the product. Investigation from the top down, if you will.

It took no genius to know what my son, or my brother's children, or my any of my nephew's children .. who are are married to white women .. were going to look like. There was no confusion there. But it didn't require genius. It wasn't about dominant skin color. East Indians have black skin. They don't look like black people. Obama could have had two black parents and not look any different. Beyonce' looks more mixed than Obama and both her parents are black.

What I suggest is that there is a deeper explanation than a random joust for dominance by assorted genetic material.

The logical and scientific conclusion would be that there must be a determant factor at play that allows the physical characteristics to be known before birth with a very high rate of accuracy.

I say this again .. this is not about preference. Nowhere in anything I've said have I even remotely implied that black people are any better than anyone else. Never suggested, never said, never thought. The unintelligent calling me a racist is just humor. In a perfect world I would think that everybody should have mixed children. Nature has bestowed us all with gifts and talents. That perfect world would be when we understand that and just grow up. The intelligence of Nature is the oneness of its creation.

I heed Mott's insights on all issues and bow to Mott on many of the scientific matters. I was talking about the sociological definition until I mentioned that it is pretty obvious that Obama or Tiger are mixed race. I would look at them and think that immediately. I don't believe the cultural divisions of race are likely to continue for long. I would think that any liberal would welcome that. But this baby, whiterthanmyass, is angry about something.

I don't hate my heritage or my gender. I hate the racists and the male chauvinists aholes. They give us all a bad wrap and make people jump to conclusions based on limited information and petty jealousy. I don't much care for the bigots on the other sides of those issues either. One can assume cawacko was being a dick when he asked about the term midget or just accept that he was asking an honest question. I prefer the latter until given better proof. My guess, is as we move forward people will stop seeing these labels as intending to divide and will stop assuming they are meant to offend. This will happen naturally due to intermarriage and the permanent majority the Democrats believe they will have will vanish. I certainly think it is going to be critical in the short term.

The relative I mentioned could easily pass as white. If he were in a group with his brothers and they were choosing teams, one might honestly identify him as the white one. I hope he does not feel too isolated for that, but he may.

I don't ask him to identify as white and he does not. I am damn proud that he does not and whiterthanmyass can kiss it. He is his brother's brother and to eveyone of them I am a relative. It fills me with joy.

You are not listening to the man. Sociological, genetic. They are different. Genetically, Obama looks like a man of mixed race. Sociologically, he identifies as black due LARGELY to a pervasive culture of racism that will vanish with or without your sincere intentions.

You're seeing only skin color....if Obama had a white skin, he would look white by every measure, except for the hair.....BUT there certainly are whites with hair

Obama's father was a Kenyian.....dark even by African American standards....generally speaking of course....so he will be dark but not near as dark skinned as his pop.
His white mothers contribution to his features is very apparent to most of us....

Physical characteristics are a product of combined genes....what more can anyone tell you ?....Mott already explained the why and what determines skin color...

But it isn't just the skin that makes these children identifiably black. It's evident in a variety of physical characteristics. It has to be more than dark is dominant.

I've had several conversations with geneticists on this issue. Many that I've spoken to believe as I do .. it's the genes.

I think all of planet earth knows that those aren't Michael Jackson's biological children. :0)
