both Koresh and the guy in Alabama had the opportunity to surrender. Both were carried live at the end, thus if law enforcement had 'opened up on them' in surrender, the people would have a chance to respond.

23 years ago? Cant you do better than that? Even that doesnt hold a candle to america. I can recall very few major incidents in my time here. There was the killing of Tiger Chan, triad boss of the red light district. A shooting in a main street after a bank robbery (all caught on TV) and the shooting of a oolice officer in a pedestrian tunnel. Of course there will have been more but if you check our violent crime stats you can make up your own mind.
White collar crime is a different matter. Out of a population of 7 million about 7 million will be corruptable!

I didn't read through most of the thread, but there really isn't a single poster on this board who doubts that if this was Bush, you'd be defending him to the hilt.
