Hey, Ghouls...

Abortion lovers claim that what a menstruating person carries is not human, that it may be a toe nail, or more likely a booger to be discarded without care, because it isn't alive and it isn't human.

{This week, a team of doctors in Boston performed the first-ever, life-saving brain surgery on an unborn baby with a deadly genetic disorder. According to the New York Post, the baby was diagnosed with a vein of Galen malformation (VOGM) at 30 weeks gestation. A team of doctors at Boston Children’s Hospital and Massachusetts General Hospital performed the procedure on the baby}

Wait, HOW IS THAT POSSIBLE? The ghouls on this board have DEMANDED that what a pregnant birthing person carries is ABSOLUTELY NOT a "baby?"

HOW can they perform surgery on a "blob of flesh" that changes the genetic makeup of a person who ghouls assure us doesn't exist?

Can any of the ghouls here explain this?

I'm sure that one of them will jump right in with their answer... (Thank you for sharing this amazing Story by the way...)

Then there are the scientists all jacked up that noxious gases on Venus might be a sign of life but a heart beat on earth means nothing

I don't see a lot of people advocating for abortion rights at 30 weeks.

Allowing abortion in the 1st trimester is a good compromise. Sentience, cognizance & viability are all legitimate criteria and apply.

There are a lot of people who say that there is no child until after it's born... so I think you missed the point... (but the first trimester is a much better compromise than anytime if that's what the woman wants.... Avoiding abortion if at all possible would be a much better compromise... and understanding that it is a termination of a developing life at any stage should be taken into consideration... if for no other reason than it's a fact...)

Thanks for sharing a great story.

My answer, of course, and not without total predictability,
is that I don't give a fat flying fuck.

A baby is a baby after a woman bears it,
and why any of them would even be amenable to going through that misery
is far beyond my comprehension.

I thought that my very own Gestapo had to be completely out of her mind,
and so, it turned out, did her daughter.

And while we're in a ball-breaking mode, TOP, you're a teacher.

"One of them" is singular and "their" is plural.
Sorry. Had to get that one in. :innocent:

That's not an unfair take.

I've always said that the issue of abortion gets more murky as the fetus develops. Certainly, anytime in the last trimester, there is much more human-ness (for lack of a better term).

It's become such a political issue for many. I mean, if some really thought it was murder....what are they doing? Thousands being 'murdered' every year, and they're sitting on their hands?

It's an issue that almost demands pragmatism. The state should never force a woman to carry a fetus to term. The 1st trimester is a good compromise, and gives a woman time to make the right decision for her future, and for the potential future of the fetus she is carrying. And everyone should wish & work toward making abortion extremely rare.

No surprise... but those doctors operated on a unborn baby..... and I'm going to bet that the parents are just absolutely over the moon thrilled ... My pregnancy wasn't miserable... not all are...I never missed a beat... though I did have to leave a golf tournament and turn over leaderboard responsibilities for two days while I was giving birth... and I did miss a week of school but it was the first week so there really weren't too many kids there yet...lol... and yes indeed you are correct ...I am a teacher...retired now... so if you tell me how the sentence should have been properly constructed, I will change it.... (Did you have to diagram sentences in 5th grade?)

That's actually correct grammar.

We did have to diagram sentences, but I don't know how to do it on a laptop. I was excellent at it--perhaps the best in the class--
but I hadn't started to box yet and still had all of my brain cells.

First, I was kidding; almost everybody has used "they" and 'their" as singular words since the two Glorias,
Steinham and Alred, started acting up.

The correct way used to be to use "his" instead of "their." [I can't find the original sentence to re-word, for some reason].
Then, the feminists objected to "his" being the default word when gender was unknown or unspecified.

Now they use "their," but I refuse to do that, so I go through the trouble of using "his/her."
You can get away with "their" today, but that wouldn't be me, would it?
I have a reputation to maintain as the "unwoke" progressive liberal.

For what it's worth I never use the word murder... and although I don't think anyone is forcing a woman to carry a baby to term we pretty much agree on everything else which is unusual so I think I'll probably leave it at... I appreciate the very civil and very reasonable response... especially the last line...
