AP: Woman Obama Hugged at Town Hall Was His Volunteer
By Philip Klein on 7.2.09 @ 11:05AM

The AP is reporting that Debby Smith, the woman who President Obama hugged during yesterday's town hall meeting and promised to help after she described her difficulties getting treatment for a tumor, "is a volunteer for Organizing for America, Obama's political operation within the Democratic National Committee" who "obtained her ticket through the White House."

One can only imagine what the press would have to say if the Bush White House had done something as cynical.

To sum up, during the session, Obama received questions from an advocate of a socialized, or single-payer health care, a representative of the liberal activist group Health Care for Americans Now, a member of the Service Employees International Union who asked what she could do to help, and one of his own volunteers.

I wrote about the town hall for the main site. Thanks to Matt Vadum for pointing out the AP article in comments.

Liberals are always ready to help others, as long as the "others" are beholden to the giver.

Well, it did seem that the conversation was about the behavior of the sitting President and you brought up President Bush.

the Obamabots do the same thing the deflector in Chief does..when all else fails, blame Bush and Fox news..or just change the subject to Bush...

That's pure BS! Even Helen Thomas said this kind of control HAD NEVER been allowed.

Obama has FINALLY lost the shine and we will hopefully get to see some REAL reporting and information coming from the MSM.

You're really not going to tell us bush Townhall meetings were open to everyone are you? Not only were they closed to any but the chosen few, but they were used in conjunction with fund raising events in order to minimize the expense to the GOP for AF1. Yes the press did report it. e.g. Fox News 4/22/2005 and more.
That said, would you call it manipulation that the bush press office decided to shut Thomas out and never call on her for years even though she was the Grand Dame of the WH press corps? Would you call it manipulation that Jeff G? a male prostitute without a venue was, strangely, given press credentials and called upon for softball questions in the same period Thomas was not? I even remember the bevy of "beauties" in the coven on WOT being their usual kind selves and calling Thomas ugly and I believe other words of such extraordinary depth. A short memory perhaps?
No manipulation? Baloney!

Remember, "the Obama" and Bela Pelosi promised, this administration would be the most honest and transparent of any before....that lasted what, one month or one day?

So, are you saying volunteers don't get cancer but if they do, they have wonderful insurance to cover it?

But this is about President Obama and didn't he run on more "transparency"?

He is more transparent than bush was. But so is a rock. So he was correct. however more is not the same as full unfortunately.

So you're willing to accept a "little" better as your parties platform.

I had already figured that's what it was; but just wanted someone to finally acknowledge it.

Thanks

Helen admits that she's liberal. Since when has Obama kept a promise? *shrug*

Being a liberal does not make you a liberal shill. Reporters are allowed to have personal political preferenced, they are just to avoid being biased. HT does that!

Is the liberal media finally waking up...??

Rachel Maddow, Helen Thomas and Chip Reid, etc....

WTHell....normally faithful Obamabots and Democrat boot lickers for years and they are even questioning this nutjobs administration....
The lies are becoming to obvious, and in your face even to them....astounding....

Or maybe the farce we know is todays media is trying to salvage a little self esteem out of the wreckage we used to see as "media watchdogs" of the government....

When Rachel Maddow and Helen Thomas start to open their eyes, can Kieth Obermann and Chris Matthews be far behind.....?????lol

Rachel Maddow and Helen Thomas are not in the same position. HT is a respected political news reporter. Rachel Maddow is the host of an opinion show, he is not a journalist like HT. It is RM's job to be biased and it is HT's job to be unbiased. They both do there job well!

HT is equlvlent to Edward R. Murrow, RM is equivelent to Sean Hannity!

Bush did it all the time.

Bush did it all the time.

No he didn't.

Bush used Town Hall forums and issued tickets...but he did not parse questions in advance and decide who could ask them. Helen Thomas and the other reporter BOTH made clear what Obama is doing has NEVER been done. They accused him basically of total control.

"The Obama" said....
this will be the most transparent and honest administration than any in the past...
