Health isnurance for profit is AMORAL!

Yeah. Insurance began as a good idea way to pool your risks -- house fire, car accident, adverse health event -- into a for-profit firmly-entrenched part of our economy. The health insurance industry in particular is the perfect example of unfettered capitalism run amuck. I know our conservative friends hate to hear this, but other more civilized countries laugh at our stupidity for allowing this in favor of a regulated mixed-socialism/capitalism health care system instead.

Anti-national health care people fear "government death panels" -- a cute phrase coined by $arah Palin whose own family benefits from a govt. health insurance plan. Guess what? We already have death panels in our capitalism-based health care insurance scheme. Non-medically-educated ppl get to decide whether your health condition is feasible to treat so that you live and profits are maintained. If you have something extremely expensive to treat... well good luck with that shit.

My youngest daughter has MS. Every few months, since her diagnosis, she has had to have her physicians go to battle with her health care plan to approve her medications, diagnostics, and other health needs. Her meds alone are more than $5K/month. That being said, this week we celebrated a great health report -- she has gone an entire year with no new plaques in her brain, no new symptoms, and they are saying -- for now -- remission. She has a particularly aggressive form of MS so this is wonderful news.

Wouldn't it be great if *every* American citizen had the same access to world-class health care without the battle to get it paid for? We can do this; hundreds of other nations have.

Congratulations on her health report. I’m glad she had an intelligent and able father to fight for her.

Before the ACA’s start, 35 states offered consumers denied coverage in the individual insurance market or otherwise unable to obtain insurance a high-risk pool option. This insurance imposed pre-existing condition exclusions for six months to one year; in this time, the actual condition that made someone uninsurable wasn’t covered. These insurance options were also typically much more expensive than traditional plans. Some states’ pools had annual caps on enrollment or only enrolled those who had prior group health coverage in the preceding 63 days. Finally, high-risk pool benefits weren’t guaranteed.

They don’t have a resconstructive surgeon in our area, the closest one it 54 miles away. They are therefore legally required to then make an exception to the “in network” requirement, but they are saying approval for such will take 6 weeks... the Oncologist says that is too long to wait. We found a reconstruction surgeon willing to accept their rates, but they still refuse to speed up the six weeks.

She is required to have a particular MRI before they will approve payment for her mastectomy but that MRI also requires pre-approval from them, that takes two weeks, for no explainable reason.

That’s just two examples.
Please escalate the issue with your insurer or contact the Department of Financial Services (insurance commissioner) and explain the situation needs expediting. This will get things moving within a couple of days.

Done three days ago, this is Florida... our Republican government is built to defend the insurance companies, not regulate them.

She's married and has no father to fight for her... he washed his hands of his children a decade ago. Her husband though is a valiant warrior, as is her mom and most of all her physician.

You know what? People should not have to have someone fight for their health care on their behalf in the so-called wealthiest nation on Earth.

I agree, glad she has someone.

Call the insurance company CEO and also the Department of Financial Services. Do you have an HMO? Or is the plastic surgeon just out-of-network?

Healthcare is a right and we should cover it with tax . We pay over double for worse care. Time to do the right thing and save money too.

All health insurance company contracts are required to cover reconstructive surgery after breast cancer, a law passed during the Clinton administration.

Two surgeries are more dangerous and the results are not as good as two separate surgeries, according to the Doctors.

But it is not medically necessary to treat the cancer. That is a fact. She is not being denied a mastectomy as you tried to claim in you original argument. She is being denied cosmetic surgery.

You will have to show evidence of your claim about the Clinton law.

Additionally why do you think Obama didn’t carry that forward in his plan that he put together for you? Does he hate women?

I am simply amazed by how many Americans are okay with allowing an insurance company to get away with not honoring their commitments.

Counselor. Isn’t it true that the insurance that was purchased to cover your wife was purchased though your place of employment?

And isn’t it also true that YOU are the owner of said establishment?

And as owner of said establishment, isn’t it you who decided which insurance plan with which to cover your family and employees?

As the owner of this establishment did you not read each plan carefully to discover that which they did and not cover prior to selecting said plan?

Why do you believe that he expensive treatments would be covered under a vaunted nationalized system? Where do you think that money is going to come from?

Is it your contention that people on Medicaid (nationalized care) receive any expensive treatment they want regardless of cost?

Oh and your description of health care in the US as being “unfettered capitalism” is completely false and laughable.

Healthcare is a right and we should cover it with tax . We pay over double for worse care. Time to do the right thing and save money too.

So if you believe it is a right, you must also believe that you should get any treatment you want and have others pay for it. Is that correct

Your honor I would like to submit the following as evidence in this case against GayRod

https://www.cancer.gov/types/breast/reconstruction-fact-sheet

As you can see your honor this evidence is from a source the witness should find unimpeachable.

The procedure in question is optional your honor. Breast reconstruct is not life saving your honor.

The defendants wife is not being denied a mastectomy as the defendant implied in his opening remarks your honor.

She could have the mastectomy tomorrow and have the reconstructive surgery afterward.

I would like to add your honor that the reconstructive surgery in question is nothing more than breast implants. If it please the court, I would like to enter the following picture into evidence.

stormy-daniels-avn-awards-2018-in-las-vegas-7.jpg

This is essentially what GayRod is requesting from the insurance company

The truth of the matter is this your honor. GayRods wife could have a mastectomy IMMEDIATELY and have the reconstructive surgery later at no increased risk to the patient.

Could be rescission. One of many problems with for profit health insurance is they make more money by refusing the care you paid for, so they do. They fight to deny coverage whenever they can. It is an adversarial arrangement. Getting sick is bad enough, but fighting with your insurance company to get procedures paid for for makes it all much worse.

And yet you advocated for forcing people to be customers (ACA mandate) of these parasites.

Health Insurance for profit is amoral and should be illegal!

Health CARE for profit is amoral and should be illegal.

An advanced society would have automatic health care for all, paid for by all, as a society.

It is disgusting and amoral that some get rich providing health care, health insurance and drugs, while others suffer and die because they can't afford it.

If the citizens never had to worry about health care, that would be great.

A fully automatic, and nationally funded health care system would make America greater than it has ever been.

Trump fans want to make America great again.

I say the heck with that.

America is already great.

We need to make America greater!

It is amazing to see such economic ignorance displayed by others

Or maybe they aren’t economically ignorant but just feel entitled to other people’s money

Why do they believe that the government won’t ration their care?

He did, it’s still the law.

The Women’s Health and Cancer Rights Act of 1998 (WHCRA) is a federal law that requires group health plans and health insurance companies that offer mastectomy coverage to also pay for reconstructive surgery after mastectomy. This coverage must include all stages of reconstruction and surgery to achieve symmetry between the breasts, breast prostheses, and treatment of complications that result from the mastectomy, including lymphedema. More information about WHCRA is available from the Department of Labor and the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services.
