hazing: innocent fun or liable deaths?

There's a definite gender distinction there! I, too, was young for my grade and tend to be on the petite side anyway. The other kids, far from bullying me, tended to be more protective and indulgent. That can get old too, but it's far more pleasant than being bullied!
I would assert that it is location rather than sex where the difference lies. I grew up in a suburb of Boston. That, plus my personality, which bugs many. :)

interesting point....we moved to a large city half through my sixth grade year....one bully in the sixth grade kicked my ass after school one day because i wasn't afraid of him....went home with a huge black eye.....over the summer.....i grew......i kicked his ass so hard in junior high it wasn't even a victory....i wanted it to be....but the beating was so bad, it was pointless
Still it must have been satisfying.

I remember in Junior High a gang of 5 or 6 pestered me on the bus for weeks. One morning after it dropped us off at school and before the doors opened the loudmouth of the group tried to "slingshot" me into a tree, and I got the better of him and spilled him onto the ground. He then came after me with his fists and we squared off as the crowd opened up a circle for us- the classic grade school fight. He outweighed me by about 40# but I was taller, so I knew my advantage would be with reach. I landed a right square on his nose so hard that it sent him straight onto his back, almost knocked out. The crowd let out a gasp then someone yelled "teacher" and I darted out quickly and never got caught. My opponent got sent to the nurse then suspended for the rest of the week. I never had a problem with that gang again.
