the DJIA was up 67.9% since 1/20/09. That qualifies as the fifth best of any US President since 1900. The only four US Presidents who saw a greater return during their first 1,368 days in office were FDR (238.1%), Clinton (88.0%), Coolidge (86.2%), and Eisenhower (68.8%), all of whom were re-elected.

Is the DJIA the sole indicator of a great economy?

How did Obama cause the DJIA to rise 67.9%?

Can you cite that figure with a link?

Thanks.

The DJIA - which you hilariously asked for a link on - is definitely one of the key indicators for the economy. It is not the sole indicator.

However, if you look at employment, manufacturing activity, consumer confidence, productivity, or any one of what any economist would see as a contributing indicator for the economy, ALL are better than they were in 2009. The economy in 2009 was a complete disaster.

Is Obama "responsible" for that? He has definitely had measures addressing the economy, but again, in a global economy, it is challenging to attribute causation.

I'm curious - why aren;t you as demanding of "facts" for those who voted that Obama has failed? How has he failed?

Give it up, B.M. These people don't understand what 'debate' means.

But let's get some facts straight. According to the Congressional Budget Office:

As of March 2012:
* Between 300,000 and 2 million people were working because of Obama's stimulus.
* The jobless rate, now 8.3%, would have been 0.2 to 1.1 percentage points higher without the stimulus.
* Economic growth was between 0.2% and 1.5% greater than it would have been without the stimulus.
* The agency said the measure raised gross domestic product by between 0.3 and 1.9 percent in the third quarter of 2011, which ended Sept. 30.

Now, you may argue that some mythical alternative to Obama's stimulus bill may have done better, but that's not the question at hand. It's not "Was Obama better for the economy than some nonexistent conservative counterpart?" It was not "Has Obama done what we would have liked him to do to our economy?" It wasn't even "Is he doing things right now that might totally screw over the economy in 5-10 years?" It's simply "Has Obama improved our economy?" The answer is an absolute 'yes, yes he has.'

Whether or not his short-term improvement through stimulus pans out to long-term growth, well, it's doubtful. But that's not the question. :)

Aren't you the little forum arbiter, here all of five minutes and claiming "these people don't understand what debate means."

Get over yourself.
