I was talking to a guy who lived in a Slavic Country (he is Jewish), he said growing up Christmas was a purely religious holiday, they decorated for new years with a new years tree and lights and had family over for dinner. Father Snow would bring presents to the party and pass them out to the children.
On Christmas he said the Christians would go to Church and pray, but that was about it.
I kind of like that, separate the secular from the religious. It would take the commercialism out of X-mas and return it to where it belongs... religion. I think it would amplify the religious component and keep the secular where it belongs, outside the Church.
People of all religion can celebrate New Years with Father Frost and a Decorated Tree.
