What is a "traditional" hunting rifle?

Do you know the Winchester Model 70 and the Remmington Model 700, both considered very popular hunting rifles, were the sniper rifles in Nam?

Yes, I like all this “traditional hunting rifle” stuff I read. What is it? What are they? Besides, the people who wrote the 2nd amendment weren’t thinking about hunting.

I’ve killed the most deer during the past 25 years with one of my several black powder muzzle loaders but I’m not readh8ng for one of those guns if someone breaks into my house.

Most deer are killed with an automobile.

Rights don't come from a piece of paper. There is no such thing as a "constitutional right". The right of self defense is inherent. Yes....with ANY weapon. The 2nd amendment specifically directs government to not mess with this right.

There is no legitimate civilian need for that kind of weapon.

You don't get to decide what is a "legitimate" weapon.

I could kill you with a traditional hunting rifle, shotgun, or revolver. But it would be more challenging to quickly kill and maim dozens of unwitting victims with those weapons.

You have trouble killing a fly. Hoplophobics like you don't shoot guns, don't know how to load them or handle them safely, don't know how to aim and shoot, and depend on meaningless buzzwords to try to describe or categorize guns.

That's what we're talking about, mass murder of dozens of victims.

I read that 87 bullet casings and three empty ammo clips were found were he shot from.

He had almost 90 bullets and only needed three high capacity clips (assuming they were 30 round clips) to execute and maim all those people. That is a lot of firepower available to him in a short period of time.

Shoot back. Tackle him. Kick the crap out of him. Anything it takes to neutralize the threat.

High capacity ammunition clips are a military innovation intended for battlefield conditions. There is no legitimate need for a civilian to be locked and loaded with that much ammunition.

My family has a watermelon farm in East Texas and feral pigs do enormous damage to a crop destroying 10s of thousands of dollars of melons and vines if left unchecked. The herds often have more than a hundred pigs. We need to kill as many as we can before they scatter. The AR 15 with a night scope is the perfect tool for our needs.

Me too. Next, they'll go after ammunition, starting with the bigger calibers. I'm safe, my .220 Swift (a .223 Magnum) would classify as a .22.
But no, the founders weren't thinking about hunting guns. the citizens back then could own cannons.

My father was big into black powder. He was a friend of Don Getz, a premier barrel maker. He'd drive up there just to shoot the breeze. I have a PA. Long Rifle my dad built with a Getz barrel, I was offered $2600 and wouldn't sell it.
I have a few black powder handguns. I like shooting my Uberti 1858 New Army, I keep 5 rounds loaded and capped in the house.
I've shot a few deer myself over the years, most with a Remmington 700 BDL I bought when I was 18.

I just went to the Academy Sporting Goods website, and checked out the Remington, Ruger, and Rossi bolt-action and semi-auto hunting rifles.

None of them had high capacity 30 round or 45 round ammo clips.

Those hunting rifles had ten round clips.

If you need 30 rounds to shoot a deer, you are a terrible shot who shouldn't even be shooting a rifle, and you may even be a threat to other hunters and hikers.

I have a Hawkins 50 cal and a Walker Colt that I shoot also.

I have a genuine Colt reproduction 1860 Army NIB too, along with all the accessories to go with it and the Uberti, both are .44. The Long Rifle is a .50.

Bans on high capacity ammunition clips are constitutional. Supreme Court has repeatedly refused to overturn local ordinances banning them.

I don't see any connection between keeping a military battlefield innovation out of the hands of civilians, and a person having the sovereign right to control their own body.
