“Gun Violence in America”

not dumb, we want to see what draconian levels you are willing to resort to here.

Nobody suggests we ban certain vehicles or bill denominations as a solution - that idiocy is all on your side

DEMOCRATS want to ban certain vehicles. They are STILL trying to force people to buy an electric car.

“Compared to much of the developed world, America is a murderous country. The U.S. homicide rate is three times that of Canada, five of France, 26 of Japan. There are more guns in America today than there are people.”

“Amid the stream of mass shootings that have become chillingly commonplace in America, the reality of the nation’s staggering murder rate can often be seen more clearly in the deaths that never make national news.”

Most gun violence in America is related to seemingly ordinary disputes that spin out of control and someone goes for a gun. Often, the victim and the shooter know one another. They are co-workers and acquaintances, siblings and neighbors. They are killed in farming villages, small towns and crowded cities.”

“The data on firearm killings is woefully incomplete, with just over 60% of the country’s law enforcement agencies reporting crime statistics to the FBI’s national database. The FBI collects nationwide crime data, participation is voluntary on the federal level and thousands of law enforcement agencies send nothing or partial information. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention does a careful count of homicides, but its data on each death is limited.”

“Homicides are often associated with big cities like Chicago, where police say the majority of killings have some tie to gang rivalries, which in recent years often fester on social media before spilling into the streets. But while Chicago’s homicide rate is high, with nearly 800 killings in the city of 2.7 million last year, its rate per capita is lower than many smaller cities.”

Amazing that in 2022 we still don’t even have a handle on understanding gun violence, nor even a complete source on gun violence statistics.

Fairly obvious we can thank the gun manufacturers via of the NRA via the Republican Party for that stupidity

Wrong. Gangs.

How many blacks in Japan?

Isn't 2/3s of all "gun violence" suicide? Usually a single shot from a pistol?

Opioid overdose 1 in 67

COVID 1 in 12 but mainly for the "masks don't work" and anti-vax dumbasses. Not really a loss.

Fatty foods, lack of exercise and smoking kill more; Heart Disease 1 in 6

Time to ban McDonald's? Require all who eat there to register with a doctor and get a license? LOL

There’s only one way …

We all die. That is a certainty.

Part of the game is to live happily for as long as possible. Some people think just living as long as possible is the goal regardless of happiness but I disagree with them. Quality of life is of primary importance.

Couldn’t agree more. My dad is 91, still gardens, mows his 1 acre yard and drives the 25 miles to town. He takes care of the money for the church congregation where he attends. I’m happy for him.

By contrast I had a bass tournament buddy who had a stroke at 55, languished in a nursing home for 4 years before dying. It was a sad deal.

Then, my mom died suddenly at 70 after a full day of helping with a community meal and quilting with her group. I alway like to say that “she lived until she died.”

I’ve always considered that if I was unable to go and do or was dependent on someone for constant care I’d rather go ahead and go. Guess we don’t get to choose though.

But I digress…don’t want to derail the thread too much. There is only one way to curtail gun violence…

Agreed on quality of life; I'd rather commit suicide than languish in a bed with tubes in every orifice. The tie to the OP is that the Gun Banners want to ban guns and, without Assisted Suicide, banning guns takes away one means of Self-Help.

Disagreed on "only one way to curtail gun violence" even though I don't know what way you mean. There is no practical way to end guns on the planet. Therefore, we must learn to live with them. <--- see what I did there? LOL

The main concern is to preserve freedom and protect citizens from each other. IMO, the best for both is better mental health care. Identify the sick fucks and get them help.

Let me clarify. I always hear we are so much more violent or that we have so many more gun deaths (and it’s true) than other “civilized” nations. It has always been my thought that if we want to have gun deaths at a rate of, say, Australia, then we have to have gun laws like they have in Australia. If we want to have as few deaths, by rate, as the UK, then we’re going to have to have laws like the UK.

My point being that the only way for the gun opposition to get what they want is to confiscate, register, regulate, price the opportunity for gun ownership out of the reach of the common man and essentially have no private gun ownership in this country…which obviously I disagree with.

And notice I purposely used the word “curtail” because even those nations with all their efforts still have a degree of gun violence. It is not eliminated even there.

No, to get to the levels the anti-gun crowd want to get to the have to make our country like those that they reference in almost every conversation of this sort. I try to get them to be honest and admit that that’s really their goal.

Thanks for the clarification. Agreed that the Gun Banners want to Europeanize the US but changing the culture of 330M people is not easily done even if they could pass every law that you listed.

We Americans are not Brits, Aussies, Canucks or any other Monarchist culture.

The US has a couple of large minority groups that the majority of murders are coming from. That isn't true of Canada France or Japan. https://ucr.fbi.gov/crime-in-the-u....018/tables/expanded-homicide-data-table-6.xls

About 140 people are killed each year in mass shooting far far more people die in drunk driving and other alcohol related deaths. Maybe we should have a booze ban and save more lives.

You mean like mass shooters like the Buffaloe shooter, the higland park shooter?

And

White Shooters Are Most Often Responsible for Mass School Shootings

Here we go again, question as dumb as Ailito saying limiting concealed weapons in NY didn’t stop Buffalo. Tell us, what law is going to prevent the next auto theft? bank robbery? cheating on one’s taxes? Etc.?

What ever it is, we don’t have it now, but at least an understanding and knowing the real statistics of gun violence would be a help in addressing the problem

And now “copy and paste” will return with, “you don’t know” or some corny copy and paste

Poor anchovies

The answer is simple. Move to Mexico or Canada.

You are correct, but ExLa is trying to gaslight JPP members into believing it's the Brown People who are the true threat. That's standard Alt-Right ideology.

https://www.splcenter.org/fighting-hate/extremist-files/ideology/alt-right
The Alternative Right, commonly known as the "alt-right," is a set of far-right ideologies, groups and individuals whose core belief is that “white identity” is under attack by multicultural forces using “political correctness” and “social justice” to undermine white people and “their” civilization.

Another, here we go again, the Black guy did it

Last I knew, Black, Yellow, Brown, White, whatever, they are all Americans, and I can’t recall many instances of mass shootings, school shootings, grocery store shootings, spa shootings, church shootings, mall shootings, etc, where the shooter was Black
