Gun falls out of 16 y/o’s backpack

Makes sense, Oom. The less evolved that you are, the more comfortable you can be in the wilderness.
Violent, racist fuckwads aren't more sophisticated, just more needy. You need your entertainment, stores and police nearby. Not always in that order.

You live like ants; crowded and on top of each other, whereas I prefer to live like a free bird. Cue Lynyrd Skynyrd.

Or this:

At one of our local High Schools a 15 year old kid kid had his backpack under his desk and accidentally unzipped, his handgun slided out into the floor where the teacher was the first to notice it…

This was not reported by the media and the kid is being removed to a school for troubled kids…

So, other than reducing the availability of firearms, what can we do about the situation that happened much more than is reported?

Any ideas? My kids go to these schools!

Unfortunately you live in AMERICA where the gun has more rights to life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness than your children. I am sorry to hear this. The sad part about America is that the rest of the country would be able to deal with a shooting at your kids' school after only a brief bout of "thotz-n-prayerz", but ultimately the country would bounce back and be fine. Then the Right Wing Media machine would work to convince you your dead kid was a crisis actor.

Did someone take care of the gun that slipped out of this kid's backpack? Because THAT'S the one that America loves most.

Why would a kid think they need a gun in school? Is he a bully or is he being bullied?

There's also the factor of the parents. How can a 15 year old pay for a gun? Average cost is $500, but there are cheaper ones for $200.

I’d like to know the answers to those questions.

I’m sure it’s tucked away in a dry air conditioned evidence locker somewhere.

That's what the hand-wringing newscasts are for after the tragedy. We don't worry about that stuff up front.

To be fair, many of us who grew up in hunting families had a gun by the age of 15. I had .410 shotgun. Handguns probably a bit more rare, but America is full of gun nuts who think of guns more as funtime toys than deadly tools.

Do you understand that there are about 5000 students going to that school, we don’t have the budget to metal detect all of them.

good lord....how stupid is the school board in your incompetent blue school district.......there is no reason to have that many students in one high school.....

Clear backpacks like many corporations force their employees to use on site

I haven't experienced clear backpacks for corporations. If it got to the point that my workplace REQUIRED that everyone have clear backpacks because there was a danger of a mass shooting that high, I'd probably just quit.

But obviously mass shootings happen at workplaces all the time, so maybe it's called for everywhere. I love how the Second Amendment has made America SO SAFE that we need armed guards at churches, metal detectors and "hardened" walls and windows at schools, and now clear backpacks for your job.

America is knockin' this outta tha park! Guns for the win! And the only cost is a few thousand dead innocent people whose only crime was going to the movies once!

It’s all about control from Tallahassee and the tight regulation of the little money we are allotted. Ron DeSantis’s DOE.

THAT'S your complaint? NOT that America is awash in so many guns and school shootings? That they have a big school???

Might want to re-order some priorities there.

I was talking about such issues with a teacher the other day. I mentioned mental health screening, with all the proper HIPAA protections, and she mentioned that it's like a small program called "What I'd like my teacher to know". Although most responses are flowers, pets and other kid stuff, her school has identified abused children, bullied children and other problems...sometimes before they became serious problems.

A mental health screen can be done on a computer. A simple question bank can flag kids for further review, even if it's just more questions. People would only become involved if a problem is identified.

Although a medium to small county school, the teacher mentioned they had a counselor and a school nurse. The nurse has been a key figure in identifying problems, too. Usually kids with odd injuries. In one case she mentioned, a boy's aunt was arrested for child abuse.

Large workplaces who have security letting people in and out

Warehouses, factories and such do this

About 92% of all school funding is local. Yes, that's exactly in the department of the Governor and the State legislature.

I was in Florida when the Lottery was first proposed. It was sold as "providing funds for school". Great idea until the state started basing all school funding on how many idiots bought lotto tickets and gave tax cuts to the rich.

yes newb.....that is my complaint......you got any intelligent arguments against it or are you as dumb as you've shown us so far...

For student safety we should reduce the number of students per class. I say two to a classroom. To make sure no trans funny business is going on, the toilet should be right there in the room with them. We know kids like to fight on the way home, so they should just stay at the school over the course of their education.

makes about as much sense as all the other stupid things you've suggested in the last couple of years......
