if i've worked hard and either saved or set aside more than my fair share, shouldn't I get to decide who gets what out of my property?

Absolutely, assuming others can obtain life's necessities. During times of war items are rationed and people are forbidden to hoard and when it comes to war we've got the war on terror and the war on drugs.
