CINCINNATI -- A grand jury in West Virginia indicted a Cincinnati priest last week on child sex charges.

Rev. Robert Poandl

The charges against the Rev. Robert F. Poandl are related to a complaint filed by a 28-year-old Cincinnati man who said he was molested by the priest during a 1991 trip to Spencer, W.Va. The man said Poandl molested him when he was 10 years old at the Holy Redeemer Catholic Church Rectory.

Police investigated the man's claims and a grand jury indicted Poandl on Jan. 26 on charges of first-degree sexual abuse, first-degree sexual assault and sexual abuse by a custodian. Poandl was released on bond last week.

Poandl is a member of the Glenmary Home Missioners, a religious society of priests and brothers, in Cincinnati.

The Rev. Dan Dorsey, president of Glenmary Home Missioners, said that Poandl "has denied and continues to deny the allegation." He added that Poandl has never faced such accusations in the past.

Dorsey said Poandl was moved from his ministry assignment in Georgia last June, when the allegation came to light, and was brought to the Glenmary Residence in Cincinnati. Dorsey called the move part of the organization's "Policies for Maintaining Ethical Ministry With Minors."

Dorsey said Poandl has not publicly functioned as a Catholic priest since he was moved.

“This is a very difficult, painful time for everyone associated with this case," said Dorsey. “We await a just decision based on the facts of the case

THey should just keep these things quite, they harm the church.

that would help their alter boy recruiting a lot, the church is criminal and the members are cult criminals for neglecting to help the kids getting raped weekly.

I used to get "rapped" weekly...sometimes daily. My mom and dad were serious "rappers" especially when my mouth would overload my butt.

But seriously, as a non-Catholic Christian (that would be a protestant to most of you wouldn't it?) who isn't absolutely devoted to defending them, I have to say that if you look you will find bad people in all religious groups. You will find bad people in all groups of people.

You hear more about it when it is a Catholic priest or something like that because Catholicism is the #1 "Christian" religion in the world. I theorize that priests might be more prone to this sort of thing because of the vow of celibacy their religion requires them to take...an un-necessary, un-biblical vow IMO. I also think that if someone were to do a study of all of the child molesters (if such a thing were even possible) he would find only a small percentage were Catholic priests & that only a small percentage were even "Christian" of the vaguest sort. Of course it gets high-lighted when it is a "religious" person who is involved in something like this because it goes against all a "Christian" is supposed to stand for.

You know what, there are even bad dope smokers. We had one guy here kill a neighbor's horse and butcher it. The law caught him with the hams in an ice chest at his house while he was heading back through his MJ patch to get the backstraps. He was prosecuted, paid his fine, and later was caught molesting a child. He is no longer with us. Somehow he was killed in prison.

I know you like to point this stuff as to highlight those evil "Christians" but I don't think you really want a study done comparing the bad dope smokers with the bad "Christians.

I can only take this issue. vow of no sex= child molestation cause and affect

pot smoking does not lead to any crimes, millions smoke some will be criminals just like some beer drinkers are criminals.

Does anyone doubt if the catholics weren't such morons and allowed priest to marry hot parishioners their would be 99% less incidents.

That causation is flawed. How often do you hear of Buddhist Monks raping children?

Seriously. The causation is the fact that they worked to hide it, pedophiles talk among themselves (often they are caught because of this as the FBI now sends spies to their websites, etc) and would know which places to go where they could find protection and access. Suddenly many pedophiles would have "the calling" to become Priests because the church actively worked to protect these people rather than doing the right thing and actively defrocking and turning them in (like Buddhism requires).

Marriage doesn't stop pedophiles, often they will marry single mothers for access to their children (conversely single fathers as well). The reality is marriage doesn't stop it, nor does adult sex. Adult pedophiles recidivate at a much higher rate than any other offender group, they cannot be "fixed" and need to be removed from society when they are caught. Marriage would just give them one more way to hide. Not only are they a Priest and "holy" but they are also married...

Buddist monks have sex with each other
They would also be kicked out for that. In fact, even masturbation is reason to be "defrocked". The difference is they do not shuffle those who violate the "rules" around and let them reviolate, they are simply removed as Monks. If they broke the law they are turned over to authorities.

If you read Paul (I want to say Romans), he actually trashes marriage and sexuality as unnecessary distractions. He basically says, if you must marry, go out and do it. The one interesting thing he says about marriage, is that it need not be confined to like-minded believers, and that it can be a means of conversion.

I agree....and I do read Paul's letters. He is encouraging Christians to "remain as him" (that is unmarried) due to the problems that they will be facing in the near future such as the destruction of Jerusalem in 77 AD and the impending persecution at the hands of the Romans. You are right that he then concludes, "It is better to marry than to burn (with lust)."

Paul also is the one I refer to who warns repeatedly about the rise of false religion that brain-washes people and makes rules commanding that they abstain from eating meat or certain foods and that they would forbid some to marry. He calls all of this "doctrine of devils (actually demons)" showing that such doctrine is wrong.

"1Now the Spirit speaketh expressly, that in the latter times some shall depart from the faith, giving heed to seducing spirits, and doctrines of devils; 2Speaking lies in hypocrisy; having their conscience seared with a hot iron; 3Forbidding to marry, and commanding to abstain from meats, which God hath created to be received with thanksgiving of them which believe and know the truth. 4For every creature of God is good, and nothing to be refused," (I Tim. 4:1-4)
