Graham Says He Will ‘Get To The Bottom’ Of FISA Abuse As Senate Judiciary Chairman

The Steele Dossier has been confirmed from multiple intelligence sources in multiple countries with the exception of the story about the hookers peeing on the bed.

Defend Trump if you like.. Sad.

Don't forget about Cohen in Prague which was the single most damning accusation in the dossier. No proof of that, Mueller isn't even going there.

Cohen coordinating with foreign hackers attacking Hillary isn't important? I'd say that's the capstone of the arch Mueller is attempting to build, without it he's got nothing on Trump.

There's much more to Cohen's problems than Prague.. Lindsey Graham is barking at the moon.. To what end?

Prague wasn't Cohen's problem, it was Trump's problem. Mueller didn't even mention it. You know why? Steele was wrong, that's why. That means your statement about only the golden shower being unverified was incorrect. Now we're up to two things unverified, I wonder if there are any more?

this is what a Special Counsel should be investigating as a function of DoJ internal review for crimes-
not the BS "show me the man and i'll show you the crime" Mueller

Yup.

Start with a *specific crime* and not some nebulous construct like ‘colluding with Russians’. Moreover, FISA abuse is an abuse of power—it’s an instance where the government is committing a crime against its citizens. The DOJ can’t do it because it occurred within the DOJ. All the ingredients are there.

An SP should have been appointed months ago. But if one gets appointed I’ll believe it when I see it.

It’s pretty apparent by now that The Dossier was put together to be unverifiable. Intentionally.

In what has to be the Mother of All Ironies it is likely a product of Russian propaganda—and it was masterful. Yet it was used to start an investigation into a sitting president.

Let that thought sink in.

I don't think the Russians had anything to do with it at all. I think Hillary wanted to use it to justify putting Trump on trial.

Russians fed Steele the document unless my facts are wrong.

If that’s true, it should have been a huge Red Flag. One of at least two red flags—the other being it was paid-for opposition research. In either event it should never have gotten anywhere near the FISA court.

The assumption at the time was that Hillary would be the next President. Trump was way out in front of the field after Super Tuesday which was March 2nd, 2016. The "oppo research" wasn't commissioned until late April, 2016. Why wait that long? The first time Trump called Hillary "Crooked Hillary" was April 18th, 2016. I think she wanted to toss his ass in prison.

My points are that the Dossier is likely a product of Russian propaganda based on the fact it’s largely unverifiable and because it was fed to Steele by Russians. And that it should have never served as the basis for an investigation—much less, as a justification to spy on an innocent US citizen.

The Dossier timeline is interesting but only because it raises the question of whether it was ever intended to go beyond opposition research or whether there was plan in place all along.

The ‘insurance policy’ comes to mind. The timeline seems to suggest the latter.

We don't know for a fact the dossier was fed to Steele by the Russians.

mostly Russian contacts

Wasn't it concocted out of whole cloth by Steele, Nellie Ohr and a couple of other swamp creatures? Steele backed off his earlier claims when faced with a libel action.

In the dossier, he stated without reservation that an “extensive conspiracy between Trump’s campaign team and the Kremlin” existed.

He wrote that Mr. Trump, as a hotel builder and entrepreneur, engaged in an eight-year partnership with Russian intelligence dating back long before his presidential campaign, during which both sides traded information.

One memo also claimed that the Kremlin had compiled enough financial and personal information on Mr. Trump that it could blackmail the Republican nominee.

He wrote that Paul Manafort, Mr. Trump’s former campaign manager, and a campaign volunteer, Carter Page, in tandem orchestrated the campaign with Moscow to meddle in the race.

He also maintained that Michael Cohen, Mr. Trump’s attorney, traveled to Prague in August 2016 to meet with Russian President Vladimir Putin’s personal staff and orchestrate a cover-up of the campaign’s hacking conspiracy.

All of those charges have been denied, and none has been confirmed publicly by a press leak or congressional inquiry.

It was later revealed that the campaign of Hillary Clinton helped fund the dossier, meaning that in essence her paid agent was spreading unsubstantiated charges to get to the FBI to investigate her opponent, critics say.

Now that Mr. Steele must defend those charges in a London courtroom, his confidence level has shifted down several notches.

In court filings, Mr. Steele doesn’t sound as confident.

He answered questions through his attorney in a libel complaint brought by a Russian entrepreneur, Aleksej Gubarev. Mr. Steele has accused Mr. Gubarev of being pressured by Russian’s FSB intelligence service to take part in hacking against the DEMOCRAT Party.

Steele now refers to the intelligence he gathered as “limited.”

On the charge of collusion by Mr. Trump and his campaign advisers, he now says there was only “possible coordination.”

His answer was to a question from Mr. Gubarev’s legal team on the lengths he took to brief American reporters as the fall campaign was in full swing.

Mr. Steele’s libel defense is not truth.

He argues that he warned Fusion and reporters against making his memos public and never authorized their disclosure.
