GOP Senator Proposes "Temporary" End to Social Security and Medicare

Actually I'm a Taoist. We admit we don't know.

Pascal had a logical wager on that issue. Siddhārtha Gautama had a similar idea with the Eightfold Path.

Pascal's was logically laid out:

FWIW, I doubt God is sitting on a golden throne waiting to follow the orders of whoever wrote the Bible.

The Eightfold Path

The Eightfold Path is composed of eight primary teachings that Buddhists follow and use in their everyday lives:

  • Right View or Right Understanding: Insight into the true nature of reality
  • Right Intention: The unselfish desire to realize enlightenment
  • Right Speech: Using speech compassionately
  • Right Action: Using ethical conduct to manifest compassion
  • Right Livelihood: Making a living through ethical and nonharmful means
  • Right Effort: Cultivating wholesome qualities and releasing unwholesome qualities
  • Right Mindfulness: Whole body-and-mind awareness
  • Right Concentration: Meditation or some other dedicated, concentrated practice

The word translated as "right" is samyanc (Sanskrit) or samma (Pali), which means "wise," "wholesome," "skillful," and "ideal." It also describes something that is complete and coherent. The word "right" should not be taken as a commandment, as in "do this, or you are wrong."

Another way to think of "right" in this case is in the sense of equilibrium, like a boat riding the waves and remaining "right."

I always thought the bible was the word of god, therefore I thought he wrote it via ghost writers.

Another generalized and somewhat vague proposal from the right wing....given their tract record regarding social service programs, only a fool would take Scott's word on anything regarding this.

What a putz. I'd prefer permanent.

First they wanted to put Soc Sec into the hands of private enterprise & Wall St. That was right before the near depression scandals and screw-ups under the Shrub.

Now the same cast of clowns give vague ideas and promises as to how to replace needed, functional support systems for the average working American.

Yeah, I trust them like I would trust a monkey to watch my banana cream pie dessert.

Acts are written by which branch? LOL

Which brings up another problem such as Citizens United. Congress punting to SCOTUS is another example of them not doing their job. Why? Because they are constantly running for office.

Like Walmart putting out Christmas stuff in September, House Reps face reelection every two years. That's not working in modern America. We, the People are in sore need of election reform. Part of should consider making Rep terms four years with a four term limit. A three term limit for the Senate is another consideration.

The bottom line is that Congress isn't doing their fucking job by failing to create and pass for signature acts and bills that serve the best interests of the nation.

Not an accountant, but spending the nation into bankruptcy isn't in the best interests of the nation. It's only in the best interests of a few.

Congress and the executive. Congress has to pass laws but much of the major legislation is initiated, written, and proposed by the executive. The public now expects the president to propose legislation to solve our problems compared to earlier U. S. history when presidents waited for Congress to pass legislation and then they would administer it.

I will modify my previous comments about Congress not doing their job to criticize them for not having a budget passed by October 1 for many years. They just pass continuing resolutions while working on the different spending bills.

What does Congress punt to the Supreme Court?

Passing laws that serve the "best interests" of the nation differ substantially among different groups as to what they consider the "best interests."

Four-year terms might not be a bad idea.

Marty, isn’t it about time for you to post the “pushing grandma off the cliff in a wheelchair...” poor Marty.

I always thought the bible was the word of god, therefore I thought he wrote it via ghost writers.

Seriously? Today we call those people paranoid schizophrenics. LOL

More seriously, like Aesop, Moses simply wrote down ancient stories. The Bible itself was edited from hundreds of ancient writings to tell the story of the new Catholic Church over three centuries after Jesus.

Again, like Aesop, I think the stories have great lessons to be learned, but I do not take them as the direct word of God. Is there any doubt that God doesn't need a flawed instrument like man to tell a specific tale? God could have imprinted anything desired upon our DNA.

Office holders are bound by the Constitution and their oath to serve it. Sure, the reality is that they can be swayed by public opinion, but regardless of what they say or do, they are still bound by their oath and official duties.

Trump not only failed in his duties, he abused them. Republican Senators and Representatives who support those violations and abuse are also guilty.

Rick Scott needs to be hanged alongside DeSantis. Maybe Rubio too, but definitely the other two. And Gaetz.

It's absolutely unbelievable what Florida voters will elect.
A sane mind can't comprehend it.

Jane, you ignorant slut......if it doesn't go down, its not a cut......

If the payments do not rise with inflation, then it purchases less every year. This happened back when inflation was close to double digit, so it meant that people were losing a lot of money.

There is also a need for the budget to rise with population.
