"They would have us borrow $700 $Billion $Dollars over the next ten years, to give a tax cut of about a $hundred $thousand $dollars each to folks who are already $millionaires." U.S. President Obama 2010

It's a false economy.

Squandering a $Trillion on a counterproductive will-o’-the-wisp, and then ending that specific squander isn't actually creating a new revenue source.

If any "entitlement" program is not fully self-funding, it's a pyramid scam.

I vehemently advocate ending Drug War.

But presenting that as a viable and complete solution to rendering solvent for perpetuity U.S. government entitlement schemes is snake oil.
"... everyone's for big government. The American People say we hate big government, but we like our social security and medicare. That's 38% of government right there. The biggest components of government are the most popular components of government." George Will Nov 30, 2003

having corporate welfare but complaining about individual welfare, is also a form of snake oil salesmanship.

well that's it exactly..or no one would oppose privitization!

the problem with privatization is it will not work as it does not withstand the time test. on the other hand neither does current s.s., but it works better than privatization.

if you want to blame someone for the current poor state of s.s., blame lbj. he convinced congress to change s.s. from fully funded to pay as you go and took s.s. funds to pay for the viet nam war. which is only slightly better than when bush decided to have an unfunded war with iraq. also, various congresses have added further unfunded payouts to s.s. like allowing people to 'buy in to s.s'. after only 5 years of work and make them eligible for disability payments.
