When did the military become a political toy for these assholes?
The Biden administration is forcing the Pentagon to pay travel expenses for military women to travel to other states to have abortions.
Why in the hell should my tax dollars be used on something I don't believe in?
How in anyone's mind is it right for taxpayers to pay the bill for women who abort their babies, that is why he is holding up nominations.
Secondly the commandant already has the job and is doing it, he just hasn't been officially promoted yet so there is no lack of leadership, the job is filled.
Thirdly, all he is holding up is the mass promotions congress uses to save time where they automatically promote hundreds at a time.
At any moment Schumer could hold a vote on this and promote the guy officially but he isn't because he is playing politics.
The real problem with this is that some women on active duty use pregnancy to avoid service or getting orders to deploy, orders to go to shitty duty stations, etc. They then use the abortion process to avoid having the issue of having a dependent. And, yes, that does happen and I've seen it myself more than once.
One command I was at was SIMA San Diego. SIMA officially was Shore Intermediate Maintenance Activity. That is, the Navy shipyard in San Diego. The joke on base was SIMA stood for Sailors In Maternity Attire.
Back in the 1980s, Terry? Or was it closer to the 2010s?
I find it interesting that you derail a Republican attack on the United States military with a rant about why women shouldn't in the military based on experiences in the last century.
30 years ago. About the amount of time between the end of WWII and the Mayaguez Incident.1990's.
What women were doing was they were stationed on a ship, not the base. The ship was going to deploy and sea duty isn't easy. Some woman crew member would deliberately get pregnant right before deployment. She knew Navy policy was to put her ashore for the pregnancy and that she would avoid sea duty. So, she would be assigned to the shipyard (SIMA) to whatever shop was appropriate for her rating. (Separate issue was if she was in a rating that worked with chemicals, nasty stuff, etc., she might not be allowed to work in the shop for that reason so you'd have her sit in an office, doing nothing for the workday-- and I mean nothing. Oh, and she'd be hated by the shop for taking a billet away from somebody who actually deserved it.)
Once the ship deployed, she'd get an abortion and be set with a cushy shore billet. The same sort of thing went on in the other branches too.
The Navy wasn't completely stupid and changed the policies. First, they required her to name the father. If another sailor in the same command, both got court martialed for illicit sex unless married. If the father wasn't in the Navy, she would still go to a shore billet as before. However, if she then got an abortion she would be immediately returned to the ship command for the deployment and her sea duty period would be extended by the amount of time she was ashore.
When that became policy, pregnancies dropped like a rock.
The other policy that came into being was if the service member, male or female, with dependents--like she got pregnant and had the kid but was a single parent--and could not deploy for reasons of having no means to care for the child while deployed, that member would be taken to mast for disobeying orders--persons with dependents sign an annual statement saying they have the means to care for dependent children if deployed--then tossed out on an OTH discharge.
That's how things rolled then, and I'm sure that it's gotten stiffer since then.
The Republican Party is evil and needs to die
So do you!
