America is growing increasingly diverse and more cosmopolitan, and the Republicans are on the wrong side of these trends.
The US Census Bureau estimates that the U.S. population will be 400 million by 2039. More than 22 million potential new voters will enter the electorate each year, many of them Latinos who have voted Democrat as a bloc in the past.
2/3 of the new Americans who join us by 2040 are projected to reside in just 20 "mega-politan" regions, where urban voters have traditionally favored the Democrats. President Obama won by double-digit margins in the nation’s top 50 metropolitan areas.
Today's Boomers are retiring in record numbers, and will die out at an increasingly rapid pace over the next decade. It's manifestly un-cool to be a Republican today and the GOP admits a paucity of youthful converts. Considering the X factor of an aging and nonrenewable GOP (the O stands for "old") base, and the Republicans may have seen their last victories when they stole the 2000 & 2004 elections.
