That’s a common misconception about Ohio that it has become more right leaning. It’s not true. Ohio has become dominated by the GOP due to extreme gerrymandering (don’t believe me then look up Jim Jordan’s district) and because the Democratic Party has been incomprehensibly weak in Ohio due to, primarily, the weakness of the Democratic party’s national strategy,

It very much is still a bell weather State.

To your point about the national party, see guno’s follow post sh*tting on Ohio. Historically the Democratic base was more working class. Today it is dominated by coastal elites who share guno’s view (not telling you anything you don’t know.)

As you also know Columbus is one of the faster growing metropolitan areas in the country and fastest growing City in the Midwest. I’ve actually been working with two different institutional investors open to buying in Columbus and the growth there even surprised me.

Big Coastal cities are having problems of their own so glass houses and all when trying to crap on Ohio.

The Ohio rebuke follows other defeated efforts by Republicans to enact state restrictions on abortion in the wake of the Dobbs decision. Importantly, all these defeats have come in red or at least reddish states. They portend trouble for Republicans in 2024.
We can already foresee what the messaging will be from Democrats, and its reception by Republican and Independent women voters.

Say what? Sorry Guno but you don’t crap about Ohio. We have always had emigrants from WV and KY since before Ohio was even a State. By god I was born and raised in rural west-central Ohio and one thing we are not is Hillbillies. Far from it. We may a lot of anal retentive conservative farmers and the Ohio River region of the State is Butternut country but hillbillies we definitely are not. There is a reason why Ohio has been a bellwether State for so many years, until recently, and that would have never been possible if we were what you described.

Buddy I’m telling you those would be fighting words in Ohio.

True dat. Folks outside the State don’t understand just how independent minded us Buckeyes are. That’s why we’re a bellwether State.

You’re definitely right about Cbus. Particularly in the areas of Dublin(where I’m domiciled), Bexely, Upper Arlington, New Albany and Powell. In the last few years my assessment of my home has nearly doubled. The money I lost in the stock market during COVID was more than compensated for by the increase in property values.

My folks both went to UA High and they were back recently to visit my Uncle (who still lives in UA and unfortunately isn't doing well health wise) and they were talking about the growth. World class University and a more diverse workforce (in terms of types of businesses, not racial or ethnic). A lot going on. And you're right, politically Ohio has always been a bellwether.

Sorry to hear about your Uncle. I just lost my last one a few months ago.

I bet you wished you had listened to me a few years back just before COVID that Cbus was ripe for real-estate investment.

Cbus is a very diverse city both economically, racially and culturally as next to Chicago were the largest crossroads city in the Midwest.

Oh the Golden Bears... one of my best teaching friends and fellow swim coach is a UA Legend... he's passed now but no one loved that City more than he did... most people who live in Columbus or The Burbs really like it here... sorry your mom and dad had to come home under not the greatest circumstances.... we've got some pretty good hospitals here and hopefully that has meant at the very least good, comforting care for your uncle)

Let's hope. There is a refrendum vote on abortion, so there will be turnout. However, there will be plenty of Republican women who vote pro choice, and then vote straight Republican on the ballot.

And as we now see every day, there are myriad issues with problem pregnancies that threaten the life of the mother. Women are coming close to dying due to ridiculous Right Wing laws that are now being rammed through.
