Good-bye, Classroom Libraries

Yep my daughter in law has a little library in her classroom. If this comes to Texas she will have to get her books approved.

If Texas follows Florida, she probably should not risk it. A typo in her application to beg to be allowed books could get her thrown in prison for two years. If books are a major felony, it is probably best to keep books as far away from schools as possible.

Only in America is bringing a book to school a felony, but bringing a gun to school is encouraged.

There is something deeply wrong about this.

It's telling that FL didn't just make the law so that an offending teacher could be disciplined or terminated. Nope, it has to be a criminal offense. Imagine putting an educator in prison for providing education. That says much about how much educators and education are valued in that worthless place.

Once again democrat. When and where did you serve? How fucking hard can this question be?

This is going to play very well with Independents on the national level in '24.

Not.

Reichwing media is really promoting the idea among their adherents that teachers -- and librarians -- are handing out pro-gay literature and books containing sexual material. A small library in Michigan (Patmos) was defunded by voters who were poutraged that they carried children's books containing LGBTQ characters. Parents who never attended a school board meeting EVER are now showing up at them demanding that certain books and materials be removed, and teachers disciplined for having them.

All the issues facing children at school -- like bullying and being shot -- and this is what the asshat Reichwing focuses upon.

We're already seeing a severe shortage of teachers in many Red states.

That won't improve now.

Someone will step up and challenge a jury to convict.

Florida is specializing in raising ignorant citizens who'll never be able to get a better job out of state because....wait for it....they'll only know Bible scripture.

As of Jan 19, 2023, the average annual pay for a Teacher in Florida is $24,940 a year. Just in case you need a simple salary calculator, that works out to be approximately $11.99 an hour. This is the equivalent of $479/week or $2,078/month.

While ZipRecruiter is seeing salaries as high as $44,601 and as low as $12,802, the majority of Teacher salaries currently range between $19,409 (25th percentile) to $30,559 (75th percentile) with top earners (90th percentile) making $39,231 annually in Florida.

The average pay range for a Teacher varies greatly (as much as $11,150), which suggests there may be many opportunities for advancement and increased pay based on skill level, location and years of experience.

Based on recent job posting activity on ZipRecruiter, the Teacher job market in Florida is not very active as few companies are currently hiring.

Florida ranks number 48 out of 50 states nationwide for Teacher salaries.

You are correct. FL is #1 when it comes to unfilled teacher positions. Gee, I wonder why?

Southern states are seeing the highest amounts of raw teacher vacancies, with Florida coming out on top at 3,911. Mississippi, Alabama and Georgia each have over 3,000 vacancies.

Mississippi saw the highest teacher-to-student vacancy rate in the 2021-22 school year. The state reported having nearly 69 missing teachers per 10,000 students. In comparison, Utah had less than one missing teacher per 10,000 students.

Alabama has the second highest teacher-to-student vacancy ratio, with 41 vacancies per 10,000 students. Georgia, in third place, has 18 per 10,000, and Florida with 14.

States with relatively low counts of raw vacancy, specifically Montana, Kansas, New Mexico, Kansas, and Maine, have relatively high student-to-teacher vacancy ratios with 22 to 38 vacancies per 10,000 students.

The three states with the lowest raw counts of vacancies are Utah (37), Missouri (38) and Nebraska (42).

In total, the southern region makes up the highest portion of vacancies with 22,600. The Midwest accounts for 7,400.

Evidently the voters in FL do not value education any more than DeSatan does.

Ignorance breeds ignorance, which allows them to be more easily manipulated with fearmongering.

Is there any doubt that all of this is fear-based?

Yes. I was going to include that in my comments. I believe there was also an issue in Texas last year re. teachers quitting. Of course, the previous governor loved to brag about funding cuts to education.

Texas is getting as bad as Florida in that regard...but haven't caught up to them yet because our governor isn't running for President. LOL

Not just a misdemeanor offense, but a felony. It is a serious crime to bring a book into a Florida school. It is meant to be very threatening so no one wants to risk breaking the rule.

You could argue that it is probably legal to bring a book for personal use. If the worst that could happen was a disciplinary statement, then sure take that risk. The worst that could happen is two years in prison, and a felony record for life... DO NOT BRING ANY BOOK ONTO FLORIDA SCHOOL PROPERTY!!! The risks are too high.
