God's Work

We haven't; I think you're confusing me w/ someone else.

But if Bush ever said anything along the lines of God telling him to go to war, it would have been an immense story. Maybe I missed it, but that would have been huge.

Nope, not confused at all.

It was huge to me, the moment I knew we were in trouble, and we were going to war in Iraq.

George W. Bush did and I'm appalled that President Obama has not closed it. This is not something that tax payer dollars should be spent on. I don't have a problem with ombudsmandhip between Government and Religious groups but they should not be financed by the government to provide social services....or governemnt services of any kind.

So planned parenthood is ok to finance, but a religious group doing charity work is not?

Immense is an understatement....if he would have told his supporters they were doing God's work about anything it would still be front page headlines....lol

I respect what you're saying, but just disagree. Presidents mention god all of the time - I can't remember a convention speech that didn't end with "and may god bless the United States of America." I don't see any harm in it.

It doesn't cross the threshold established by separation of church & state.

Especially since the words separation of Church and State do not appear in the constitution, or any amendment.

no, I mean his followers.

Of course you don't have a problem with it. But if Bush had said it, you would have gone bat shit crazy mocking him.

"If"?

bush invoked God plenty of times.

Get away with what? Referring to helping others as God's work? What is wrong with you righties?

What is wrong with us? You don't get it that God doesn't need your help, he will use you to accomplish his will, that is a privilege so when you do "help" someone using money stolen from others hard work, do not pretend you are on equal footing with God stooge.

And all the intelligent people said Amen

I'm fairly sure that Bush never said God told him to go to war.

I think I would have remembered that one.

A quote was out there. Unfortunately, it was hearsay.

1. I am driven with a mission from God. God would tell me, 'George go and fight these terrorists in Afghanistan'. And I did. And then God would tell me 'George, go and end the tyranny in Iraq'. And I did. And now, again, I feel God's words coming to me, 'Go get the Palestinians their state and get the Israelis their security, and get peace in the Middle East'. And, by God, I'm gonna do it." Sharm el-Sheikh August 2003.

Why? What's wrong with a President expressing his personal religious views as long as he is not making a policy statement?

Because of the great potential for mis-interpretation and the history of evil that people of power have done in the name of God. Its a slippery slope.

THE PRESIDENT: First of all, Mike, I'm conscious not to be trying to substitute myself for God. I am, on the other hand, inspired by the mom who told me upstairs that she prays every day and believes in the miracle of healing; that I think we see God's work here every day. I think when you find nurses and doctors who work around the clock, who come in at a moment's notice to save a life, I happen to believe there's a lot of divine inspiration to that kind of dedication and work.

So you think that healing the sick is a Bush policy ?...Really ?

I want to thank you for the invitation. It's such a pleasure to speak to all of you in Colorado Springs. The National Association of Evangelicals was founded 62 years ago with the highest of calling -- to proclaim the Kingdom of God. Today, your organization includes 51 denominations representing some 30 million people. You're doing God's work with conviction and kindness, and, on behalf of our country, I thank you.

And then you think that spreading the word of God by Evangelicals is a Bush policy ?

But I believe one of the most effective ways our government can help those in need is to help the charities and community groups that are doing God's work every day.

Recognizing that charities and community groups helping those in need is only a Bush policy ?...It wouldn't be a liberal policy would it ? Or is it the country's policy ?
Suburban churches are often just a short drive away from brothers and sisters who are facing great need, and doing God's work.

Suburban churches are a Bush policy...? Really ?

But I know this, that President Kennedy, in his inaugural address, told all of us that here on Earth, God's work must truly be our own. And that's what we have to -- so I think that's the test of public service.

Sounds more like a JFK policy if you can stretch that into any political policy at all....

there are so many people doing God's work.

Hardly could be considered a policy no matter how you read that

Suburban churches again....wtf is your point ?
