Climate change will lead poor women to opt for "sex work, transactional sex, and early marriage" warns a resolution proposed last week in Congress.


Introduced by a group of Democrats, the resolution calls on both the House and Senate to recognize how women will be disproportionately affected by global warming.
Women are "the first to feel the immediate and adverse effects of social environmental and economic stress on their families and communities," the document states, adding that 60 to 80 percent of farmers in developing countries are women.


It points to a United Nations report that estimates 3 billion more people might spiral into extreme poverty if governments don't take coordinated action.


Women, it says, will also feel the brunt of a harsher climate if it brings on increased migration, refugee crises and conflicts over food and water.


If a food crisis emerges, it says women may be drawn to sex work that would put them at risk for HIV, sexually transmitted diseases and unplanned pregnancy.


The resolution - H. Con. Res. 36 introduced by Rep. Barbara Lee (D-Calif.) - calls for President Obama to include women in making decisions related to climate change and ensure that there are programs in place to help women prepare and adapt to climate change.

I read the resolution. Sounds fair to me. Economic conditions, whether climate-change related or not, do force women to do things they don't. Men too. For example, some men are forced to find stupid shit to post on internet forums to prove their bigotry, racism, and misogyny.

It only takes a little common sense. they are talking about extreme poverty here. Millions will starve to death eventually, but people dont' get that. Of course if you are a mother you are going to do what you have to in order to feed your child. Don't kid yourself if there was any call for Bravo's ass he'd be peddling it too if we ever cut that welfare queen's SS and Medicare off!

Apparently women are the weaker sex. They are always disproportionately affected by everything. It is like some of them have spring loaded legs that fly open at the sign of a penis or in response to hunger.

A group of American politicians has introduced a resolution into Congress saying that climate change (among many other bad things it does) forces women into prostitution, and that as a result the USA should use "gender sensitive frameworks" in battling the scourge of global warming.
House Concurrent Resolution 36 of the 113th Congress ("Recognizing the disparate impact of climate change on women and the efforts of women globally to address climate change"), dated April 26, can be read here. It says:

So yes, women will be forced into prostitution by climate change. And something should be done:
Now, therefore, be it resolved by the House of Representatives (the Senate concurring), that Congress ...

A concurrent resolution - should it be passed in due course by the House and Senate - does not have force of law, and indeed this one merely "encourages" the President to "support women globally to prepare for, build resilience for, and adapt to climate change". It will probably not have much impact on the US government or the climate debate generally should it be passed - except, of course, that it would become the official position of the US Congress that climate change doesn't just mean crop failure, rising sea levels, death to polar bears etc: it actually forces hapless women into prostitution as well.
The resolution was introduced by a group of Democratic congresspersons led by Representative Barbara Lee of California. ®
