Glenn Beck: Japan earthquake a message from God

Fox News Channel have a credibility problem of their own making.

Night after night they give an unedited national forum to a tear-stained conspiracy theorist who critics contend is merely a delusional paranoiac.

On Monday Glenn Beck suggested that Friday's horrifying earthquake and tsunami in Japan was possibly a 'message from God.'

'We can't see the connections here,' he told his viewers. 'I'm not saying God is causing earthquakes - well I'm not not saying that either!

'What God does is God's business. But I'll tell you this - there's a message being sent. And that is, "Hey you know that stuff we're doing? Not really working out real well. Maybe we should stop doing some of it." I'm just saying.'

He's just saying? That God is killing perhaps tens of thousands of Japanese people to send a message? It's a mindset that beggars belief.

In a scatter shot list of possible reasons why the Japanese people have invoked God's ire, he even cited 'radical Islam.' As if Japan were a jihadist training camp. As if it were a nation full of radical Muslims.

It is delusional.

Presumably by Friday he will have found a way to blame it on the First Lady, too: "I'm not saying it was her - well I'm not not saying that either!'

There's a message being sent to the American people by Beck, all right: absolutely no credibility should be given to Fox News whilst this man is given a forum for his bizarre apocalyptic 'views.'

"That stuff we're doing?"

Man, is he a nut. I suppose it's only a matter of time before Robertson blames Degeneres....

I wonder how long it will be before God gets tired of these self appointed, smug, self righteous messengers?

I should have known better.

I actually believed we might get through this tragedy without some idiot proclaiming this was a 'message from God' or that 'God was punishing the Japanese for something'.

Please, someone just double tap this twit and let us be done with him.

LOL I didn't think TopDope could put two sentences together. Now that' he's resorted to SignalManKenneth-type plagiarism, my assumptions are vindicated.

And the anit education Beck is the perfect leader of the GED jesus freak rieghwing tool masses.

while i don't completely agree with beck's comments, it is not unusual for christians to believe that bad things happen for a good reason. the bible is full of examples like this and tells us we will be tested by fire or something like that. islam also shares this belief that bad things can happen for a good reason.

comments that claim something happened for a specific reason, such as homosexuality, are ludicrious as it ignores all the other sin taking place. at least beck is not specific, rather merely musing that maybe this is for a good reason. i have no idea if it is or not, it is a tough christian or most other religions issue. its pretty silly for those who don't believe in god and religion to act like this utter delusional. all humans try to understand why something bad happens and we all try to rationalize certain events in our life.

I know there are examples of such disastors and punishments in the bible. Personally, I believe that these are allegory instead of fact. I also think they were invented by man as control measures for the population.

A "God of Love" would not kill thousands of innocents to punish thousands of guilty people.
