Girl's hand cut in 'Islamic hand sign' drill, teacher charged with assault

One can be upset about both, it isn't like the upset over one thing can push out the upset over the other. The abuse is bad, that it was done in the name of a state sponsored teacher trying to indoctrinate children into her religion during math and reading is a bit more to choke on while you are upset over the other.

Jeez Damo, you're better than this. You don't know that what happened in that class had to do with religion, and the cops closed the case on it. The mom first told the story to Glenn Beck's website (the Blaze) so I'm highly suspicious of both the story and her motives.

"O’Sullivan said a police investigator looked into the matter and closed the case, telling the mother that if she wanted to pursue charges, she could take it up with a magistrate, which she did. Typically, O'Sullivan said, police do not bring charges themselves in misdemeanor cases unless they witness the act..."
"According to The Blaze, Stephanie Bennett said the hand gesture her daughter was forced to make was "like an upside A-OK hand gesture." When A.J. Jones, owner and director of Atma Bodha Yoga in Virginia Beach, heard that description, he said it sounded like a hand posture used in classical yoga called mudra.

Yoga is rooted in the spiritual and philosophical traditions of Hinduism.
Mudra is formed by making a circle with the thumb and first finger. The other three fingers are straight and together. If they are pointed up, the posture is known as jnana mudra, Jones said, and if they are down it's known as chin mudra. "Basically, both mean wisdom and knowledge," in Sanskrit, Jones said.
Mudra serves as an energy seal, Jones said, making sure energy circles through the body. It can be used with more meditative, seated poses, like lotus.
The hand posture is non-denominational, Jones said, though mudras are discussed in Hindu and Buddhist texts, as well as yogic texts, which are not religious-based, he said."

This wasn't 'corporal punishment' .......this was an accident where the girl was injured.....she wasn't being beaten or anything of the sort....
corporal punishment was very common in both public and parochial schools in the years past...long past..... and was condoned and accepted and expected
by parents years ago.....If I was hit by a teacher in school I could expect the same when I got home for not behaving.....
Today, its the exception to the rule.......

Its irrelevant in this case.....

She manhandled the child. It is abusive.
