Barney Fife would currently be the front runner if he joined the current crop....

The One might just win by default. This could be an easy win for a slightly above average candidate from the Reps. But they seem compelled to run their version of Bush vs. Kerry.

It's way early, if republicans want to consolidate the power gained in 2010 they can bitchslap the far right and nominate a fiscally conservative, science believing socially liberal republican.

They don't have to be socially liberal... a social moderate would work just fine.

Both parties will try to claim the role of 'fiscally responsible'... then whomever gets in office will proceed immediately to do the exact opposite.
