a firearm must have at least the following characteristics to be considered an assault rifle:[SUP][2][/SUP][SUP][3][/SUP][SUP][4][/SUP]
  • It must be an individual weapon
  • It must be capable of selective fire
  • It must have an intermediate-power cartridge: more power than a pistol but less than a standard rifle or battle rifle
  • Its ammunition must be supplied from a detachable box magazine[SUP][5][/SUP]
  • And it should have an effective range of at least 300 metres (330 yards)
Rifles that meet most of these criteria, but not all, are technically not assault rifles, despite frequently being called such.
For example:

  • Select-fire M2 Carbines are not assault rifles; their effective range is only 200 yards.[SUP][17][/SUP]
  • Select-fire rifles such as the FN FAL battle rifle are not assault rifles; they fire full-powered rifle cartridges.
  • Semi-automatic-only rifles like variants of the Colt AR-15 are not assault rifles; they do not have select-fire capabilities.
  • Semi-auto rifles with fixed magazines like the SKS are not assault rifles; they do not have detachable box magazines and are not capable of automatic fire.

For a full-auto M16, this will be anywhere from $12,000 and up. Typical prices for an M16 hover around $14,000 to $16,000.
Once purchased and with your dealer, the dealer will fill out the Form 4 application on your behalf to submission to the BATFE and collect your $200 NFA transfer stamp tax.
The application will be submitted. Now you wait 8+ months for the full FBI background check and BATFE processing to complete.
 
The guns that are made to specifically kill humans are ok. Those that are meant to harm innocent ducks, geese, and deer should be banned. I like most animals, including Trump. I hate humans.

The Pulse victims- and the thousands of other victims- will have died - not only knowing that their murderers' gun rights were not being infringed upon, but also in the knowledge that the death weapons didn't meet the far right assault weapon criteria.
