Friends share their memories of the 46-year-old who gained the nickname ‘gentle giant’

may 28 2020 Floyd moved to Minneapolis from his native Houston several years ago in hopes of finding work and starting a new life, said Christopher Harris, Floyd’s lifelong friend. But he lost his job as a bouncer at a restaurant when Minnesota’s governor issued a stay-at-home order.

On Monday night, an employee at a Minneapolis grocery store called police after Floyd allegedly tried to pass a counterfeit $20 bill.

Floyd, 46, grew up in Houston’s Third Ward, one of the city’s predominantly black neighborhoods, where he and Harris met in middle school. At 6 feet, 6 inches, Floyd emerged as a star tight end for Jack Yates High School and played in the 1992 state championship game in the Houston Astrodome. Yates lost to Temple, 38-20.

Floyd was charged in 2007 with armed robbery in a home invasion in Houston and in 2009 was sentenced to five years in prison as part of a plea deal, according to court documents.

I am always amazed by how racist and stupid you are, Somebody had several people at the incident. They carried guns., They had clubs and tasers. They were trained in their use and they workout like crazy. I doubt the cops were scared because they were taking him into custody. Did you notice that., he was not resisting. That too was on the video.
Oh wait, he committed the crime of being tall. That should be met with violence and death.
Your incredible fear and hate of blacks is not shared by the rest of us.

Lots of Black men have some sort of record that's what the system is designed to do.

Give them a record so they cannot legally own guns, get jobs, get housing........keep them oppressed so they end up dead or in prison.

Racist white men can't compete so they try to eliminate the competion. And, government sanction murder is how they get away with it.

Once a suspect has his hands cuffed behind his back there is no real danger to the cops. Unless he is superman and can break the cuffs at will. I see no reason for the cop to put his knee on the suspects neck. If he was resisting they could have cuffed his legs also and put him in the car. Hell they are armed with tasers what is the guy going to do.
