Germany considers getting its own nuclear weapons despite rejecting nuclear energy

Germans are beginning to discuss whether the country will eventually need its own nuclear weapons amid fears of U.S. disengagement with Europe, even as Germany continues to spurn nuclear power.

German officials have begun discussing a nuclear fallback plan with the U.K. and France, thanks in large part to Russia's continued aggression as well as former President Trump's pressure on European allies to meet defense spending thresholds, the Wall Street Journal reported Tuesday.

German Finance Minister Christian Lindner gave voice to concerns in an article published in German media.

"Under which political and financial conditions would Paris and London be willing to maintain and expand their own strategic capacities for our collective security? And conversely, how much are we ready to contribute?" Lindner asked....

Germany has started two world wars costing tens of millions of lives. Should Germany ever have nuclear weapons?
It’s a logical move with Trump pushing Russia to attack Western Europe.

That's the truth. I imagine that Into the Night's caretakers hand him an iPad for a few hours a day so they can go deal with other patients. He spends that time exhibiting his psychoses to the internet. He should be humanely extinguished.

Mantra 1d. Death threats don't work.

Let's talk reality. If trump is elected, Germany, Japan, and South Korea, among others, can no longer count on American nuclear weapons. That means they all have to get nuclear weapons. It is not a question of should they, but rather that they will because they need them.

Who else will get nuclear weapons? It is hard to say.

Maybe Germany should invest in their NATO obligation instead.

Technically, nuclear weapons would count against their 2%. Without their nuclear program, the UK would be well under 2%.

If the USA stays a trusted member of NATO, then Germany getting nuclear weapons is a waste of money. If trump is elected, it is just reality that Germany will get nuclear weapons.

Well stated and agreed.

Another reason why Trump would increase instability in the world. He thrives on chaos and he'd work to spread it.

The problem with the transactional model of military alliances is that once a war starts, there is no way to come up with enough money to pay an ally to fight on your side. If Russia invaded Germany, Germany would not have enough money to pay for America to be on their side. We would either support them because we are honorable, or we just will not support them in a war.

Everyone knows this. Putin knows this. Which means Putin knows that trump will probably not honor his NATO obligation.

And that makes war more likely, which in turn makes the losses of war more likely. By promising large losses in case of war, we save a huge amount by making war less likely. IRONY!!!

No doubt Putin is smarter than Trump. Picture a jackass being led by a carrot. Now picture Putin leading Trump with money.
