gay marriage bill signed in maryland but opponents vow referendum

One step at a time. Maryland was the 8th state to recognize gay marriage. Only 42 left (or 49 if you were in Obama's geography class)

This issue has been incredibly successful. It's went from unthinkable nonsense to majority support in just 15 years. I love how gay marriage opponents were boasting about their incredible victory in getting so many gay marriage amendments passed. You went from not even having to say anything to requiring these bills to get ensure that your position stays in place. That's a weakening of your position, not a strengthening of it. And with every passing day, they're just getting weaker and weaker. Of course, the anti gay marriage position has some inertia. But I'd be surprised if every state outside of the south didn't have gay marriage within twenty years or so. The south itself would likely have to wait until the millenial's rise to power. However, I think the supreme court will probably pass a ruling in gay marriage's favor before that time anyway.
