GasBuddy pushes back on Trump price claim

GasBuddy, a company that tracks fuel costs across the country, is refuting President Trump’s claims in a Friday morning social media post touting record low prices at the pump.

“Gasoline just broke $1.98 a Gallon, lowest in years, groceries (and eggs!) down, energy down, mortgage rates down, employment strong, and much more good news, as Billions of Dollars pour in from Tariffs,” the president wrote on his Truth Social platform.

However, GasBuddy said it could not locate any fuel stations with those prices.

“We don’t have any data showing any individual stations below $2 a gallon today nor have we really seen any of that in the last several weeks since these claims have started,” Patrick De Haan, head of petroleum analysis at GasBuddy, said in a statement to NewsNation.

The lowest price in the nation as of Friday was in Mississippi at $2.63 per gallon, according to the company’s data tracker. The national average is $3.18 as of Friday, according to AAA, with no prices listed at less than $2.61.

Economists predicted Trump’s tariffs would spike gasoline rates in early March before “reciprocal” tariffs and other measures were announced by the administration, many of which have been suspended for now.

The U.S. imports more oil from Canada than any other country, meaning Trump’s relationship with new Prime Minister Mark Carney could impact future gas prices — especially in regions that rely heavily on Canadian gas, such as the Midwest, the Rocky Mountains and New England.

In January, Trump signed an executive order seeking to boost domestic energy and offshore drilling by exploring promising pockets of federal land.

The cheapest gas in Texas is currently 2.29 per gallon at a Valero station in Pampa. Other stations with low prices include Alon in Sweetwater at 2.31 per gallon and Buc-ee's in Eagle Lake at 2.35 per gallon.

Costco near me is 2.59 per gallon
Costco in California is 3.75 per gallon. Thanks Gavin!

Still no evidence to the 1.98 claim.

Come on guys! You're slacking!
Lowest gas prices are on the Indian Rez. around here and they are 2.69 , and they don't pay any Fed. gas tax.
Another thing the MAGAS are saying anything about and that is employment may have gone up because stores are trying to get product from the ports to their stores before Trumps tariffs go on , After they do go on and we start feeling their effects it will go down.
Already it has effected the Auto industry , two car companies have shut down and are moving out.
Ford and GM are cutting production and are laying off people. Farmers are crying they can't afford to do business because of the tariffs and may have to shut down and could go out of business.
And MAGAS can't seem to see what is already going on I guess when all Trumps tariffs are in place and take effect and drive up the cost of everything they buy they might wake up.

He understands what consumers pay is coming down from what they paid when Democrats were in charge.
And NONE of it has to do with him.
It is the Saudis increasing production and dropping the price that is doing it, it has NOTHING to do with Trump.
Just like they did in his first term where over 100 US oil drilling and producing companies went bankrupt and a lot of them out of business for good because they could not compete with the Saudis , I wonder if Trump will let it get that bad again before he does something.
Last time after all those companies went bankrupt Trump Finally stepped in and told them to cut their production and raise prices or he was going to stop all their military aid and they did.

The Saudis are talking adding another 2.2 MBPD to their production by Nov. Driving gas prices down even more and AGAIN Trump has NOTHING to do with it.
