Gas cars exploding from pumping gas. 500 gas cars catch fire annually

Stations: Some Facts, Some Statistics and Some Prevention Tips!

Gas stations are fire-prone areas, that’s a fact, there is no argument about it!

According to the National Fire Protection Association, every year more than 5000 gas station fires are reported in the US.

These fires cause plenty of damage.

Talking in numbers, on an average, gas station fires cause 48 civilian injuries, 2 civilian deaths, and $20 million in property damage every year.

What types of fires usually occur at gas stations?
The fire breakout patterns at gas stations have continuously varied across the years. There was a time when structure and outside fires were quite common at gas stations. Today, vehicle fires dominate.

Citing the NFPA’s Fires at US Service Stations report:

61% of gas station fire incidents involve vehicle fires;
27% are structure and outside fires;
And the remaining 12% are outside trash fires.

Electric vehicles are exploding from water damage after Hurricane Ian, Florida official warns

"There’s a ton of EVs disabled from Ian. As those batteries corrode, fires start," Patronis tweeted Thursday. "That’s a new challenge that our firefighters haven’t faced before. At least on this kind of scale."

Patronis published a video of firefighters in Naples, Florida, battling a fire started from a Tesla EV's battery. A bystander is overheard in the video saying that the crew had used hundreds of gallons of water attempting to put the fire out.

Got any link to gas cars exploding because of water?

So all the people handling these waterlogged EV's have to worry about them exploding at ANY TIME...while the waterlogged gas cars are safe

Yup, stupid people who think waterlogged gas cars are "safe" cause these dangerous situations. A waterlogged gas car is extremely dangerous, and should be avoided. It has an incredibly big explosive, equal to about 300 sticks of dynamite of energy. Also in a waterlogged car is a battery that is open to the air (or in this case the water), and very possible to short and create a fire.

Fires and explosions all need sparks to start. ICE cars have batteries in them that provide easy sparks when wet. Cars are big metal objects that when moving around in a flood or an accident will also generate sparks. Only an idiot thinks they are not extremely dangerous.

This stands out as being the stupidest thing I have read so far. Not just because putting out such a fire with water is many times a mistake, but because "hundreds of gallons" is nothing.

A typical low pressure fire hose sprays 600 gallons a minute. A hundred gallons would be sprayed in 10 seconds. So some random bystander said they spent 10 seconds putting out the fire...

The reality is that when firefighters use hoses to put out fires they like to use the hose for 10 minutes after the last sign of fire, so that would be at least several thousand gallons.

Thanks for tearing VolsSuck a new ass hole.

I love the irony of Reichtards whining about how "dangerous" and "deadly" EVs are, while simultaneously refusing to do a single thing about the repeated massacres of children and adults by gunfire.

"... nearly 49,000 people were killed by guns in 2021..."

MAGA RepubliQans will never win the EV argument. The EVs are breaking sales records worldwide and the MAGA morons are wetting their panties over it.

Sad.

Then your car can catch fire just sitting there in the parking lot!

This is exactly right.

Fires at gas stations start because someone crashed into the pumps, and no one shut off the fuel flow (you know that big red button on the wall?).
Fires can start because you are using your cell phone while pumping gas. Don't use your cell phone.
Fires can start because you started pumping gas before the nozzle was connected to the car.
Fires can start because you were smoking while pumping gas.
Fires can start because you were filling a portable tank while it was not on the ground.
Fires can start because you were filling a container not designed for gasoline.

In brief, fires start at gas stations generally because some people are extraordinarily stupid.

That's not water you're pumping pal.

Waterlogged gas cars can be restored and put back in service. Waterlogged EV's tend to catch fire because of corrosion that develops in the battery terminals, destroying the car.

Nope. You an put a lead-acid battery underwater and it won't catch fire. It won't work anymore, but it won't catch fire.
Gasoline does not explode if contaminated with water.

Trying to put out a class C fire with water is a BAD idea. Unfortunately, fire departments only have water to work with when trying to put out a vehicle fire.
