Gary Johnson secures nomination

How many times are many of us going to believe these "walk on water" pre election promises?

There is no way unless he is god himself that Johnson can do all he promised.

I'm voting for him. Also, I know Romney can't carry my state, anyway, so it's only logical...

hmm i haven't paid attention to washington polls, but if memory serves me correctly, you guys have a big mormon population, so that could help him

Why is Grind promoting Johnson instead of Billy? :D

what are you talking about? My heart is often with the libertarians, I have voted for libertarians, i've defined myself as one in the past, they are definitely the party closest to me on most issues, though I don't agree with everything these days

Well, obviously. But a Libertarian win in the White House would certainly fuck up Congress good. Shake things up.

Yep he would be the most ineffective president since Carter.
Neither side would support him.

Would be interesting to watch though.

well, you're dumb, because if a libertarian was elected it would imply there is a massive shift in how society views public policy.

Bingo. It'd also mean that BOTH parties are in drastic danger of being replaced. It'd be every man (or woman) for himself rather than sitting by comfortably in a near impenetrable party incumbency. It means they'd HAVE to be effective.

what we need is instant runoff.

but we are screwed, cause it would be asking the people in power to weaken their power. How many times in history has that ever happened?

We lost, sadly, all we can go is man the dam as much as we can before we die.

It's happened a few times (Washington for one). It's a rare enough thing though. But if there is any generation up to the task, it is us Grind. We have the largest percentage of patricians.

problem is washington is one person. getting a collective to give up their power is a much more difficult task.

again, it's not raising a barn. It's asking hundreds of people in the highest power in the land to relinquish their power. Your idealism, while admirable, is ultimately fruitless.

Republicans have a chance of winning the gubernatorial race in WA, where they also happen to be running a popular, two-term AG for the office, but cannot carry the presidential race. Basically, we can win state offices, such as Sec. of State, AG, and, in 2004, the GOP won the gubernatorial race for about 5 min. until the Dems could find enough votes to overtake them.

I love how politics forces everyone to say stuff they know is patently untrue, and everyone in our society knows it too. It's just one big elaborate dance of doublethink. So great.

Because he was governer in New Mexico, he might get some impressive vote totals from that state for the LP. I'm talking 3%, 5%. Maybe even 6%, although I'm perhaps getting ahead of myself there.

Elsewhere, he may perhaps break the magic 0.5% ceiling that has long haunted LP candidates.
