You just heard it then. But Democrats more often than Republicans, I'm sure, know a republic can be a democracy and that the United States, in fact, is a representative democracy and a republic. It's nothing more than a matter of knowing what words mean. Right wingers, however, treat the subject like a religion.

A republic cannot be a democracy. A democracy cannot be a republic.
There is no such thing as a 'representative democracy'. Democracies have no representatives.
