There are long term side effects of COVID, though, and 1 out of every 5 people who gets COVID will develop long term side effects from it including a weakened immune system, heart disease, kidney disease, and lung disease.

The suggestion that the vaccine is causing widespread heart failure is the stuff of the deepest conspiracy theorists, but is quickly becoming mainstream among the right wing nutters.
They know that they're wrong, they're just getting more and more shrill because they realized it's too late to go back.
So they have to lean in now because going back would mean their previous judgment was flawed and none of them believe their judgment is flawed.
So the dissonance is going to create panic and frustration, which makes them more susceptible to conspiracy theories to help explain why things didn't turn out the way they thought.
