Fukuyama: Russia Will Lose And Putin Will Fall

Did Russia invade the US? I looked at a map...doesn't make sense.

that's irrelevant

Ukraine is a democracy adjacent to the US's main allies, the EU, and being threatened by a dictator out to absorb them and neighboring nascent democracies back into USSR 2.0

if the US and the EU were to ignore Putin's naked aggression how do you suppose that would turn out?

Yes, war is fascinating. Go ahead.

In “Preparing For Defeat,” reformed NeoCon, Francis Fukuyama, predicts that a new 1989 is coming:

1. Russia is heading for an outright defeat in Ukraine. Russian planning was incompetent… Putin at this point has committed the bulk of his entire military to this operation—there are no vast reserves of forces he can call up to add to the battle.

...

2. The collapse of their position could be sudden and catastrophic, rather than happening slowly through a war of attrition.

...

5. The Biden administration’s decisions not to declare a no-fly zone or help transfer Polish MiGs were both good ones; they've kept their heads during a very emotional time. It is much better to have the Ukrainians defeat the Russians on their own

...

7. Putin will not survive the defeat of his army.

...

8. The invasion has already done huge damage to populists all over the world… [like] Trump

...

9. The war to this point has been a good lesson for China… The miserable performance of the Russian air force would likely be replicated by the People’s Liberation Army Air Force, which similarly has no experience managing complex air operations.

...

12. A Russian defeat will make possible a “new birth of freedom,” and get us out of our funk about the declining state of global democracy. The spirit of 1989 will live on, thanks to a bunch of brave Ukrainians.

eat it T**** - sucking up to dictators is never a good idea, like instigating insurrections in DC for example
Yeah like Biden giving the Nord Stream II his OK

Yes, war is fascinating. Go ahead.

at times war is a necessary evil, like when any democracy is threatened by a right wing dictator........and that's not to excuse US aggression in SA for example, which is laid out very clearly in books like "Confession of an economic hitman" by John Perkins

besides, the US has zero troops in Ukraine

Yes, media is hysterical over war. God forbid I don't do what media tells me. As the saying goes, if it bleeds it leads.

from what I've read and heard Putin regularly purges his would be top advisors, is ruling in a vacuum of his own making.....megalomaniac

divorced from reality.........the dissolution of the USSR began in 1988, went kaput in 1991, and Putin has been obsessed with recreating it since day one

I guess an ex-KGB intel guy he couldn't accept the reality of the situation and still can't

There's been a lot of speculation that he is suffering from some terminal condition and this war is an attempt to cement his legacy as the leader who restored the satellites to Mother Russia. What's your take on that?

Putin uses Qanon, and Trumpian nomenclature such as "fake news". Their connection is undeniable. Tough guy Putin is nowhere to be seen. he directs a badly fought war from his bunker. Zelensky is on the front lines and visible in the news.

. Zelensky is on the front lines and visible in the news.

He's not as visible as he should be. Get an eyeful, boys.

He wants to thank Reagan's Toast for his support.

Haw, haw, haw, haw.................................haw, haw.......................haw.

Russia has lost already. It was supposed to be quick and easy, what the world expects from a great military over a small one but Russia proved to be a Superpower version of the Emperor Has No Clothes. That former image is lost and pounding Ukraine into rubble won't get it back.

after all is said and done, Putin is a tin pot dictator with a nuclear arsenal he inherited

his military is a joke, made irrelevant long ago by his corruption.....billions supposedly earmarked for their maintenance has gone directly to him and his pet oligarchs

according to the west. You can argue it's been tougher then expected but no sane person would say it was supposed to be quick and easy.

and this is just getting into the middle game - nobody should be predicting anything yet
