dano do you think there should be free lunch programs to children of families who are low income or can't afford to pay for their childrens lunch??

i kinda think they should get rid of this since most families who are low income get welfare and wic and can go to food shelves so why should there be money for free lunches for kids at school?

I agree. And there is no record of any starving kids or anyone in America before these programs.

I went without most of my lunch for a few years, not because of money but because I wouldn't give in and eat my stepmother's gross macaroni meat sandwiches.

Whew!!! I'm really glad you guys don't make the decisions for our state and federal programs. I have seen first hand that a lot of kids don't get a decent meal anywhere other than at school, no matter how much their family is entitled to. If you could see how some of these kids come in and wolf down their food in the cafeteria you'd understand that they likely aren't getting much if anything to eat at home. There are a lot of reasons behind the why's or the why nots of this but the school lunch program is a great program that I certainly don't want tinkered with.

I'd be interested to see the official budget for school lunch programs. I'm sure it's dwarfed by about a 1,000 other wasteful items that don't affect education or children one iota....

Or they can't be bothered to make breakfast and just skip it.
Or the parents save their money and just get the school to feed them because it's cheaper.
I bet you anything they get decent meals through the summer at home (when there is no school in session) and don't come back to school in September any skinnier than when they left it, am I right?

Come on leaning, straight up, did you ever remember any kids starving at lunch growing up before this program?

Dano - Again, you have no idea what you are talking about. Just concede that you are clueless and don't really give a shit if children are going hungry or not. You just don't want to pay for their meals through taxes. It's not that difficult.

keep the healthy stuff free.. crap frys and burgers ects should cost.

its a win win situation.. poor kids get healthy meals for free.. kids with money can buy crap.

Here. I'll go first.

There are children that for whatever reason do not receive sufficient nourishment in the home and I am more than willing to have some of my tax dollars pay for free and reduced-price lunches at school for children of low-income families.

That wasn't hard. Now you go.

Yeah I guess I'm old fashioned, I think parents should pay for their own kids. I know, I know, it sounds radical but by golly I just think it can work!

I'll wait to hear leaning's response, he's a teacher, you're just a spoiled college kid who has little experience in this.
If you'd like to prove your case, show me one single picture of a starving kid in America from economic circumstances. Simply does not exist.

Thank you for admitting that you think children should be punished for being born into a families that are either unable or unwilling to provide them with sufficient nourishment. I prefer not to punish the child thusly. Maybe a spanking, but letting them go hungry is not something I would be OK with.

Um, you're in college, you don't pay any taxes. I love how you are more than willing to use other people's money though!
"Politicians never accuse you of "greed" for wanting other people's money – only for wanting to keep your own money." – Joseph Sobran

If there was a single child who was starving in America, the leftwing media would have pictures of it and it would be national news, so I'm sorry buddy but they don't exist.
Instead we have the opposite problem with record child obesity, especially among the poor - THAT is reality.

That was easy. Now you go, seriously go.

You are delusional, there is simply no record of kids starving before these programs, none at all. If that is your contention, then prove it.

Dano:

1) You don't know me and shouldn't assume that people posting on internet message boards are truthful in their profiles.

2) I pay taxes.

3) I'm not playing your puerile game of "find a picture of the starving kid." There is plenty of statistical information about poverty and hunger for you to locate on your own if you were so inclined.

4) Quit it with the quotes. If I wanted to consult Bartlett's on the bullshit you post I would do it myself.

2 is probably true sorry, you probably paid a little sales tax on Michael Moore's latest works of fiction.

Yeah there is plenty of organizations screaming that kids are starving but they never seem to show the simplest of evidence showing it with just a simple picture. We see those pictures all the time from Africa, where real starving people exist, but not America.
I'll tell you what though, you find me a picture, shows any American starving (and not anorexic or because some freak locked them up or something), but starving just in basic regular living and I'll leave the board. No shit.
You claim this country has them, show them to me.

Good luck, I lived in arguably the worst neighborhood in my state, people were fatter if anything. Stats back me up too.

As with everything, I will continue to hope & pray that the Republican Party adopts as much of Dano's philosophy as possible for their national platform.

Yeah, no school lunches is REALLY radical idea there Lorax, there are many Western far more Liberal countries in Europe that don't even have it. Unneeded.

What would be the point of playing your game. You've already stated that you don't give a shit if children are hungry or not so why should I bother? It won't change your position on the issue.

To indulge your silliness (and Obfuscate's), I have worked at the local Boys & Girls Club running a summer program for children whose parents couldn't afford the modest sliding scale camp fees and I can tell you from first hand experience that the lunches that we provided through the summer food program were the only meals that those kids ate some days.

Good! Get your reps to push the national GOP to make eliminating such programs a part of the platform, and actively pursue that in all national & local campaigns.

It will give the voter a real sense of where the priorities lie. I would sincerely love it...
