A California bill that would remove a requirement for offenders to register as a sex offender after committing certain sex acts with minors within a 10-year age difference is set to go to Gov. Gavin Newsom's desk after passing in both legislative houses.
The bill, SB 145, applies in cases where the victim is between the ages of 14 and 17 and aims to lift an existing registration requirement for oral and anal sex. The state senate and assembly both voted to approve the bill on Tuesday despite Republican opposition in the Senate and bipartisan opposition in the assembly.
"If signed into law, a 24-year-old could have sexual relations with a 15-year-old child without being required to register as a sex offender," Senate Republican Leader Shannon Grove tweeted Tuesday.

That sounds nice but the fact is ‘early’ was already late. The virus was here before Trump anyone else could do anything about it. If it was in China in November it was here *no later* than December.
The first known case of COVID was the first *known* case of COVID in this country. With all the immigration from China it’s virtually impossible for the virus to take from November [in China] all the way to January to get here. It’s almost certain that COVID cases/deaths were being missed in January/February [what were we doing in February again?] and the National case number could have easily been in the thousands given the mobility of our population.
In short, we were basically screwed, by China and the WHO. At that point the virus was gonna virus. There was a narrow window where contact tracing could have stopped it, but yeah.

Then there is the question why did trump shutdown the CDC office in China. That would have given us early warning. It appears he did not understand what they did, and thought it was foreign aid.
Immigration is only a small part of the travel to and from China. Part of the problem here is you continue to see this as an immigration problem.
But the bigger problem is that you seem to think we either have perfection, or we let it go to complete failure. Has early testing prevented any Covid-19 in Taiwan, no. But it has reduced the per capita deaths by over 99.9% so far, and maybe more over time.
The sad disgrace is Mexico did a better job than trump.
It has almost entirely been flowing the other way. How many cases has Mexico gotten from us? Most of their cases come from us either directly or indirectly.
We have all been saved by dumb luck up to now. The difference is trump counts on dumb luck, whereas Biden puts in the hard work in case we are not saved by dumb luck.
